Bush is the best thing to happen to .....

President Bush may just be the best thing that has happened to American liberalism since JFK.

And no, I’m not happy to be typing these words. As a long time Republican, I figured liberalism was mostly dead. I have no desire to see it flower again intact with all its shortsighted policies.

But Bush’s incompetent cluelessness is doing for liberalism what Carter’s disastrous presidency did for conservatism. The one thing that I’m grateful to Carter for is showing exactly why we needed a president like Regean. In a strange way, Carter’s ineptitude actually ended up doing American a huge favor in the long run. Had Ford been elected in 1976, it is difficult to see how we would have ended up in a Regean presidency.

George Will, Bill Kristol, David Brooks and Robert Kagan are all well known conservative columnists and they are beginning to turn on Bush. It’s not that they have any affinity for Kerry, but like many other conservatives out there they are starting to see just how appalling Bush is as a president.

Any exuberance for Bush from the conservative throngs is fading fast. It is increasingly difficult to justify anything Bush is doing. I have spent the last few months looking for anything that would suggest that I’m wrong in this analysis. But the last couple of months have only served to prove something that many of us conservatives have been afraid of for a little while now – namely that Bush doesn’t have an idea what he is doing.

its been a bad 2 month, But Im hanging in there

"Bush doesn’t have an idea what he is doing."

I agree completely.

Stop blaming Bush for everything that goes wrong in this world. He has no control over terroist - yes, we do have people who are trained to do this job. Also, if people would stand up for their rights and stop letting just a handful of people run things, then our country could get back to the way it should!!!

ok i agree too. :teeth:

I want to say this about Bush. Remember the hype, satire, & comedy prior to him being elected and shortly thereafter?
Ha, ha we laughed at his "lack of knowledge". MadTV and SNL had field days with Bush and his "incompetence".
But we believed that this lack of "trivia" made no difference in running the USA. Perhaps we were naive. Maybe it did matter.

Beautifully written MM, yes maybe he will help the liberal cause in the long run. :D

Yup. Can't wait for the November elections; then we can end this current travesty and get this country "back to the way it should."::yes::

Welcome! I was wondering when the debate board people would make their way over here!

I believe the OP is correct and that this is one of the ways that history will judge this presidency.

Cati, if the president wants to take credit when things go right, then he has to take the heat when things go wrong. And they have gone disastrously wrong.

"Bush is the best thing to happen to ..... " my birds! His picture in the newspaper, at the bottom of their cages, make a great target for my birds when they're bored!

Oh sorry! I thought this was a "Finish this sentence ... " thread.

You're dreaming. American liberalism is dying fast. Fewer and fewer people identify themselves as liberals, and more and more identify themselves as conservatives. The Democratic party is on the rocks - they're divided and can't produce a coherent message.

President Bush will be reelected in November, and the Republicans will gain seats in the Senate.

Why are the polls saying differently then? I mean even the ones with links on my home page? I don't want to be disrespectful on Memorial day, but I see tons of liberals out there- everywhere! :sunny:

I don't know if I agree that more people are going to be calling themselves Liberal now, but I do get the feeling that more Moderates are aligning themselves with Kerry over the next election than Bush.

But I live in a heavily Democratic population to begin with, I'm not sure what nationwide trends might be. I suspect that most people will not begin to make up their minds over the Presidential election until after the Conventions.

Ohio is a 'battle ground" state this election, todays poll Bush 48 and Kerry 42 %

Me thinks someone has been listening to Rush a little too much.

Now back to filling in the sentence. Bush is the best thing to happen to ..... David Letterman's show in a long time. :teeth:

My mind is a consertive but my Lobito is a Liberal

Good grief! That's one scary combination! A stuffed shirt whose inner child longs to be free to go skinny dipping and <marquee>STREAK!</marquee>
