First time at FW in 27 days. Can someone explain Disney Transportation within the Fort and from the Fort to the parks. We are staying in a cabin. I have read varying information. Any help from experienced people would be great. We won't have a car.

There are buses that run through Fort Wilderness. You take them to to the Marina and you can take the boat to the magic kingdom. There is a boat that go to the Cotemporary and there you can take the monorail to the transportation center and switch monorail to Epcot. I think there are also buses to the other parks and down town disney. I believe you can also get buses from the settlement to different parks. There are also buses by the front gate to differnt parks. Allow a lot of time to make conections.

For the best and most up to date transportation information...read the information packet they gave you when you checked in. It should answer most of your questions regarding the busses and other topics. Also, there is a Disney information cable channel about Ft. Wilderness - between channels 17 and 23 IIRC.

It seems at times it's every changing but basically ...

1. There are internal FW bus routes that loop around FW and service CS, CS and cabins along with the Marina and Front Desk area stops.

2. At the Marina you can get boats directly to MK along with boat to WL or Contemporary. Where they stop might vary (the larger boat might stop at WL, but never at the CR). The smaller ones (launches do not go to MK from FW, but only service WL and probably CR)

3. Also at the Marina bus stop there are buses that go to WL, but I'm not sure of their schedule.

4. Transportation to all the other parks and DTD are from the Front Desk area bus stop.

When in doubt just ask any of the bus drivers and they will help you getting to where you need to go.

And take the bad reviews of FW transportation with a grain of salt. I like the internal/external setup at FW much better than some of the mods where there are several theme park bus stops. I like that everyone catches the theme park buses at one location - it seems more "fair" in regards to getting a seat (or even just getting on a bus). I've stayed in the cabins and not rented a golf cart, using the buses for primary transportation, and I didn't have any trouble getting around.

You will get a map when you check in, and there are maps posted in the bus stops. Buses with "Outpost" on the front will be headed toward the Outpost where the theme park buses are. Buses with "Settlement" on the front will be headed to the Settlement area where Pioneer Hall, Trails End, and the MK boat are located. So if you are going to either the Outpost or the Settlement, you can get on any bus with those showing. The tricky one is getting to the main pool at the Meadow Trading Post. Unless they've changed it since April, that was the Orange bus from the cabins. The sign on the front of the bus would alternate between Orange Settlement or Orange Outpost and Meadow/Pool (or something to that effect). I carried my map with me the first day of my first visit, but it really was very simple and easy to get around.

Everyone here has given great info. :thumbsup2 I just wanted to put in my own subjective opinion about the bus system that refutes its negative reputation. Buses to and from the parks were just as reliable as any other resort we've stayed at. We rarely waited longer than 5 minutes for a bus, sometimes we sat, sometimes we stood, just like any other bus system. The internal bus system was fine--if we had just missed a bus, we just started walking toward our destination and caught a bus at the next bus station...or the next. Didn't bother us, we were on vacation. Leave yourself adequate travel time, as FW is sort of remote, but doesn't it take a while to get ANYWHERE in DW? And the boat to MK is GREAT! :hippie:
