Researching for a trip there this Summer. Do you think my family could find a condo for under $900 for a week? Needs to sleep 4, 1 bedroom with pullout sofa is ok. Would prefer to be as close to BG as possible. Thanks for any help you can offer.

Most likely. When we go, we stay at the Powhatan Plantation, because we have an RCI timeshare. It's about a 15 minute drive from there to BGW, and the property is gorgeous. Without knowing when you're going, I did a search on them for June 8-14, and they have a one bedroom condo (which sleeps 4 comfortably) for an average of $80-90/night. The only thing is you have to pay for the whole week when you make the reservation, and you can't change or cancel it; if you want to be able to change/cancel it or pay when you get there, it starts at $100/night. Williamsburg Vacations looks like a good site with info about hotels/condos/resorts in the area, if you'd like to look at the specific dates you'll be traveling. Plus you can purchase tickets if you want to do other things while you're there, too.

Powhatan has a great pool area, an indoor pool with racquetball courts, tennis courts (equipment is available to use), games and movies you can check out for use in your condo, bikes you can rent, a playground, and mini golf (I think it was $20 for unlimited use for our entire group for the week). If you stay in a ground floor unit, you usually have a private hot tub, too. My nieces loved sitting on the back deck first thing in the morning while they waited for the "oldies" (me and mom) to drag their butts out of bed and get presentable for the day :) and watch the bunnies, ducks, squirrels, swans, and other assorted critters. After a few visits, they even insisted on buying a small bag of baby carrots for the rabbits, and kept stealing pieces of bread to feed to the ducks and squirrels who, to their delight, would come right up to them to get the food if they held still enough.

Thank you for your information. I will look into the Powhatan condo you recommended. I see at Hotels.com to reserve the Powhatan is $111 per night but that is non-refundable rate, which we would not want to do. Then it jumps to $170 per night for free cancellation rate.

Just as an FYI and you may know this or it may not matter, but through 3/31 you can get a Fun Card for BG (which works from 3/16-9/1 as many visits as you like) for $72. It also works at Water Country. I have an annual pass (free parking + 10% off food) but my kids are getting fun passes. It's such a good value.

ETA: Have you tried VRBO.com?

I was wondering if the Fun Pass would be offered during the whole year? Wasn't it that way in other years?

Try calling them to book directly. They might be able to swing you a lower deal.
I've stayed there and Powhatan is quite a nice development.

IMO the best condo resort in that area id Kingsmill, but they around 200 a night for a condo and that sounds out of your budget. Again ... probably worth talking to them directly and seeing if there's a deal you can make use of.

I've been an annual pass holder since 2010. My recollection is fun passes have always been good from the 2nd day of the season (the first day is for annual passholders only) until right before Howl 'O Scream.

Most people I know have one AP for the parking discount and the kids get the Fun Pass.

The big perk this year is they're throwing in Water Country. So two parks for most of the season for the cost of a one day ticket.

There's a 2 night getaway at Powhatan on Travelzoo this week for $119 for stays through May 22. A 1BR is $119, a 2BR is $139. Plus there's a $25 dining credit. I see quite a few Williamsburg deals on their website. Wyndham Kingsgate has a 2BR condo for $50-$60/nt through March. I know you said for the summer but just keep checking the sites. They'll run some type of a deal.

Haveanese - I hope BG offers the deal where you buy a 7 day pass and you get unlimited visits to BG and Water country.

loveswdw - Thank you for the Travelzoo info. I'll keep checking on there.

I think the 7 day pass is more expensive. Look on their website. Seems like it's $82 vs. $72 for the Fun Pass.

It does cost a little more, but it works for us because I would want to buy those 7 days tickets at the last minute.

We have stayed at all 3 Wyndham timeshares in Williamsburg and they are all lovely. Last year we rented a 2 bedroom for $100 a night in June. We rented through an owner off eBay.

I wish I was brave enough to do that off EBay. Maybe I will check into it. Did you have a cancellation agreement?

We've used vrbo.com and home away.com for many trips check out your location on there. We love staying in homes/condos instead of hotels.

:thumbsup2

We stayed at Wyndham Kingsgate when we had a timeshare and traded through RCI. We loved it there & had a great 2 BR/2Bath condo, clean & well maintained. No bugs.
There is a Wyndham owner, Ken Price, who rents his Wyndham points & is well-known on the Orlando board, mostly for Bonnet Creek near WDW but he can book at any Wyndham resort. Look for the "We Looooove Bonnet Creek" thread on the Orlando boards to get more info about him.
People give great reviews about renting from him and I did contact him once when I only needed a 3 nt weekend stay and though we ended up changing plans, he was very nice & honest in our conversation. (He admitted due to fixed fees per reservation and higher weekend point requirements, that his best price is for a weekly rate.)
I recommended him & Kingsgate to a coworker and she stayed there last summer & loved the place & said Ken & his wife were great to do business with.
We have since sold our timeshare but I wouldn't hesitate to call him if I wanted to rent a condo somewhere.

:goodvibes

We are going to Williamsburg this summer also. We are a family of 5, so condos are definitely more comfortable for us when we travel. I have been looking at the Wyndham resorts there, and I was told by one of the resorts that if you book it 60 days out (right now we are about 90ish) that they could give it to us for half price. They can't guarantee, of course, that there will still be availability, but we are willing to take the risk since we need a 2 BR and that's a nice savings. Not sure about your dates, but maybe this will work for you also.

I recommend the Marriott at Ford's Colony for Williamsburg. It's about 20 minutes to Colonial Williamsburg. We didn't go to BG so I'm not sure of the timing to there.

We stayed there last fall in a one bedroom and it was fantastic. Booked through the Marriott website for about $100 per night. Very nice bedroom, living room with pull out sleeper, washer/dryer, gas fireplace and full kitchen in the room.

Fun cards are usually valid up until labor day weekend..The howloscream starts maybe the 2/3rd weekend in sept..
I do the same thing..we have one annual pass and then purchase fun cards for everybody else... We normally dont go to howloscream anyways so it works for us...

Depending on when you may get a good concert or during illuminights where that have fireworks everynight.. Its not wishes but hey...
