Bus to Downtown Disney after parks close?

I just read on another board that there is not a bus that takes guests to Downtown Disney from MGM! I am so shocked and disappointed! We wanted to hit DTD after MGM and Fantasmic on our trip. I am sure that plenty of guests do the same thing! How do you get to DTD after Fantasmic?

i guess one way would be to take a bus from MGM to Port Orleans, then get the boat to DTD. or take a bus to any hotel for that matter and another bus to DTD. but thats just my opinion, there may be a better way.

The last time we were there we noticed this at AK as well. I don't know why they dont have busses to DTD when they have them to the other parks. Anyway, from MGM, we generally head over to the BW or one of the Epcot resort area hotels (or you can take the boat if you don't want the walk...it will drop you first at the Swan/Dolphin). Then, you can hop on a bus to MGM. When we stayed at the Swan, we never waited for more than 5 minutes for ANY bus. This is an option you might want to try. There still may be an easier way, however. They did this because people staying offsite were parking at downtown disney for free and then taking a bus to a park. You have to transfer at a resort, makes it a little harder.

So do you think the BW is the closest resort to MGM? Is that the one that you recommend going to in order to catch the bus? We are staying at Pop Century. Will it be just as close to go back there and catch the bus to DTD from our hotel?

From MGM, you can take the bus to either of the Port Orleans resorts, Saratoga Springs or Old Key West. They are all in the same direction and closest to DTD. You could also walk to any of the Epcot area resorts and bus from there. Boardwalk would be the closest to MGM.


It stinks that you have to do this, especially since in the non-busy times when the parks close early and you go there every nights, but I guess you have to take what you get.

we are planning a few evenings at DTD too...If we can get there, can we get back to the resort? How late do buses run from DTD to the resorts?

I would go to ANY resort that had the SMALLEST bus queue. Then at that resort I would get on the bus to DTD.

The busses run from the Marketplace until a little after 11 PM, sine that is when those stores close. After that, you will have to go to the West Side stop and catch the bus there. That runs for Pleasure Island until after 2 AM when the clubs close there.

I'd go to one of the EPCOT resorts - DTD isn't a very long way from any of them.

If you are not too tired to walk - walk to the BWV and catch the bus from there. The path way is well lighted. You'll find it by walking straight out past the tram station towards the parking lot. The buses will be to your right. Bear to your left and look for the beginning of the cement pathway that leads down to the side of the canal. Follow the pathway under the bridge and look for the tennis courts (on your right). Take a right just after you go by the tennis courts (which are just after you walk under the bridge). You'll have the end of the BWV wing on your left and a parking lot on your right. When you get to the entrance driveway, just walk across the street and you will see the bus stop. Shouldn't take more than 10-15 minutes to get to the bus stop from the MGM entrance turnstiles.

If you'd rather take the boat, get off at the first stop - that will be the dock for the Swan/Dolphin. Take a left and walk through the Swan to get to the bus stop.

Buses will run back to the resorts from PI until about 30 minutes or so after PI closes for the night. You won't be stranded. You can also take a cab back - they are plentiful at closing.

Actually, according to Tyler, you could be stranded. It's not like the parks where you could be the last to leave MK 3 hours after official closing and there will be a bus waiting to take you to your resort.

The last bus leaves DTD at about 2AM. You will need to take a cab after that.

A previous poster mentioned the West Side bus stop at DTD. There used to be three bus stops at DTD (Marketplace, PI, and West End) The West End has been closed for about three years. So you would need to go to the PI stop late at night.

Thanks for the great tips! We are headed to DTD one night and PI another night. I can't imagine we'll be in PI till 2 but you never know...

I will make sure to leave before the last bus! I don't think we will be there that late because I want to be at the park gates when they open the next morning!
