How many bus stops are there at OKW and does anyone know which is the first stop?

They go in this order:

Peninsular Road
South Point
Old Turtle Pond
Miller's Road
Hospitality House.

For the Internal and DTD/Typhoon Lagoon bus, the bus makes two stops at Hospitality House. The first and last stop.

I would like to put in a request to be in building near the 1st bus stop which is Peninsular Road. Those buildings are 23 thru 29.

Is any one of these buildings better than the other? I'm also going to request a water view.

What size unit are you getting? Depending upon the demographics of your party, you may not want a unit under bldg 30. There was a design change at OKW during construction. For 1 & 2 bedroom units, the entrance to the master bathroom is through the master bedroom only (this is the only bathroom in a 1 bedroom unit). Bldgs 30 and higher have an additional entrance to that bathroom through the laundry room, to afford the master bedroom occupants more privacy.

Strictly from a bus perspective, there rarely is a major problem getting on a bus, no matter what stop you are near at OKW.

It would be a 2 BDR. My only concern with the bus stops is when you're one of the last stops, when you get on the bus there is usually no more seats and you have to stand.

I've never had a problem getting at seat on a bus when it stopped at Old Turtle Pond. People will be getting on and off at all stops.

Is there a link available that shows which buildings have 2BDR's or do all the buildings have them?

All buildings have studio, 1, and 2 bedroom villas, and some have GVs. I'll see if I can locate the breakdown that Doc did a few years ago.

Here is the OKW map:
light grey shaded areas are water.

And here is Webmasterdoc's building analyisis:
GV's are found in Buildings 15,16,19,22,25,29,43,48,51,53 and 63.
Smoking Optional buildings are 12,19 and 41.

All of the following descriptions are listed from right to left, as you face the building from the parking area.

Type A buildings are all 3 stories.
1st Floor- S,1,2,2,2,1,S
2nd Floor- S,1,2,2,2,1,S
3rd Floor- 2,2,2
Buildings 13,20,21,23,26,27,28,32,33,34,36,37,39,41,42,45,46 ,47,50,52,54,56 and 62 are all Type A.

Type B buildings are all 2 stories.
1st Floor- S,1,2,1,S
2nd Floor- S,1,2,1,S
Buildings 11,17,24,30,31,40,44 and 55 are all Type B.

Type C buildings are all 3 stories.
1st Floor- S,1,2,2,1,S
2nd Floor- S,1,GV,GV,1,S
3rd Floor- GV, GV (upper floors)
Buildings 15,16 19,22,25,29,43,49,51,53 and 63 are all Type C.

Type D buildings are all 3 stories.
1st Floor- 2,1,S,S,1,1,S,S,1,2
2nd Floor- 2,1,S,S,1 1 S,S,1,2
3rd Floor- 1,S,S,1 1 S,S,1
Buildings 14,18,35 and 38 are all Type D.

Type E- #48 is a 3 story building.
1st Floor- S,1,2,2,2,GV
2nd Floor- S,1,GV,GV,GV,GV(upper Floor)
3rd Floor- GV,GV,GV (upper floor of all)

Type E- #49 is a 3 story building.
1st Floor- S,1,2,2,2,1,S
2nd Floor- S,1,GV,GV,GV,1,S
3rd Floor- GV,GV,GV (upper floor of all)

Building 48 and 49 are the only Type E buildings and each has a variant configuration.

TypeF is a 3 story building.
1st Floor- S,1,2,2,1,S,1,S
2nd Floor- S,1,2,2,1,S,1,S
3rd Floor- S,1,2,2
Building 64 is the only Type F.

TypeG is a 2 story building.
1st Floor- S,1,2,2,2
2nd Floor- S,1,2,2,2
Building 12 is the only Type G.

Gary has prepared a coded map of OKW with smoking and HC accessible buildings noted.

Enjoy!
Doc added the following information later:
I have updated an inaccuracy in this configuration listing.

Building 49 actually has three GV's instead of 2. It has the same building shape as #48 and includes a variation in it's layout.

#48 has a ground floor access GV in place of lock-off 2BR villas on the left end of the building. The 2nd floor has one lock-off 2BR and 3 GV's.

#49 has a lock-off 2BR on each end (no ground floor GV) and has a lock-off 2BR on each end of the 2nd floor- along with 3 GV's in between. (4922, 4923, 2924)

While I have yet to have a terrible room in OKW, our last 2 stays have been on Peninsular Road (Building 24 & 28) and I will admit, I hate that location. You are not a close walk to any pool. You have a view of the golf course if you are on an upper floor. This last time, we were on the first floor and I had a view of a group of raggedy-looking palm trees which were all the way around our deck.

Also, keep in mind that the lower numbered buildings only have one entrance ot the master bathroom, so if you are having guests other than family who you will be sharing a bathroom with, you may need to ask for a unit with the doube entrance bathroom.

Does anyone know which buildings have the double entrance to the master bedroom and that has a nice water view like the lake but won't be too far from hospitality house?

All buildings 30 and above have the two entrances to the master bath. You can see from the map I posted that "2 entrances" and "close to HH", and "water view" will severely limit your choices. If, however those are your 3 most important things, than those are the requests you should make. Basically, that will limit you to buildings 62,63, and 64. Those are also elevator buildings, and 63 is also a GV building, so you could end up being under a GV, which can be noisy. Also, building 63 is right where all the buses and cars enter the complex.

I would probably prefer buildings 45, 46, or 55. They are easy walking distance to the South Point bus stop, which is the second stop. They are also right on the canal and very peaceful and beautiful views. ANY bus from ANY stop will get you to HH and the main pool easily, and the walk from buildings 45 or 46 is only about 6-7 minutes to the HH pool. We always feel like by the time we walk to the bus stop from those buildings, we could be at HH.

We stayed near HH - last bus stop in April/May of this year. We never had to stand on our way to the parks, there was always room to sit.

The only time we had to stand was after Illuminations, Fantasmic or Wishes when all of the people leave the parks at the same time.

We would get off at Pennisular stop and walk back to building 14.

Diane,

Have you heard any negative comments in regards to Building #62?

Diane

When it states a number 2 in the description of the building does that mean it is a 2br dedicated. Or does that mean it could be either a 2 br dedicated or a 2br lockoff.

Just curious

2 bedrooms are dedicateds. The lock off units are "S,1" That would be a studio and 1 bedroom that COULD become a 2 bedroom lock off.

A few, but mostly from folks staying in studios nearest the road. I have stayed in 64, but not 62, so no real experience. I have also stayed in 14, 13, and 16, and and have had no noise issues there. The only building we ever had any noise issues in was 29, and that was more because of the noisy folks in the GV above us than anything else. We had a 2 bedroom ground floor unit nearest the road too.

Everyone has said not to worry about the bus stops, so I won't. My concern with the bus stops comes from my experience when I stayed at the Caribbean Beach Resort. Since CBR has different sections each with their own bus stop and the same at Saratoga Springs, my experience has been that depending on what stop you're near and which stop is first and last, you get on the bus to go to a park and you're standing because there are no more seats. But people are saying that they haven't had that problem with Old Key West.

My main requests would be 1 BDR, non-smoking, upper floor, near Hospitality House, water view (preferably lake instead of pool).

So based on those requests, I'm not sure what building they'll give me.

I'm pretty picky on room requests. I don't really know why - we spend little time there, but this trip our mom will be with us with my niece and will want to stay in the room at least 2 or 3 days. That makes me want a nice view for her so she has something lovely to enjoy all the day long. :goodvibes

That being said, those are a lot of requests. Do you want to get all of these, or can you prioritize them? I think if you ask for all of these, you will have few or no options. Just my thoughts. I do hope you get what you want.
