Anyone who has been to POR and rode the buses, this question is for you. Which bus stop is first? That will make our building loction request a much easier choice. When we stayed a CBR, we were the last bus stop. In the morning, at least 3 buses would pass before we were able to get on one. Now having to ride the bus with kids, I would really love to be at the bus stop that gets picked up first! Thanks for the help!

Hi ckmommy --

We stayed at POR last October in the Alligator Bayou section. We stayed in bldg 27, and with 3 kids we just walked to the main bldg and waited for the bus there. All the different buses line up there. For some reason I can't remember if there were people on the bus already, but I do think a couple of times there were. Though I'm not sure where they came from...?? Anyway, we had no problem boarding the bus (2 adults/3 kids) in the morning, and getting a seat, since the buses came every few minutes. Now the bus did make a few other stops in POR, picking up a half-dozen of people at each stop. So my best suggestion would be that if you want the first stop..go to the main bldg (mason/dixie platform). Here's a link to a map of POR that may be helpful.

Thanks kashkdz! Lokking at the map, building 14 would be the best choice for loction to the main building as well as the main pool. How was the walk from building 27 (about how many mins.) to the pool and the main building? What about buildings 18 or 15? Thanks for the quick response!

From bldg 27, the walk to the main stop was about 7 minutes. We specifically picked this bldg only because we wanted a waterview room, close to the bus stops, and main pool, but didn't want to be on-top-of the main bldg. I did day around 7 minutes only because the bldgs themselves are spread out somewhat. So figure a 2 minute walk from one bldg to the another. After you leave the lodging area, to get to the main stop it's shorter to take one of the many winding paths (instead of through the main bldg). The walk was no big deal from, say, bldg 15 to bldg 27, because we liked the building location better, the grounds are beautifully landscaped, and most importantly, we pretty much walked what seemed an average of 10 miles/day anyway at the parks. Though the return trip at night required more effort, especially from our three kids (9,6,4), and myself if I had to carry one of them, than when we left in the morning. But again, not a big deal.

Hi,

My best bus stop tip would be to avoid the main (SOUTH depot) bus stop at busy times of day. It was the last to be picked up and several times the bus would be too full and bypass this stop.

We stayed in the mansions in Acadia House and we were really close to the North Depot bus stop. We always got a seat going to the parks. (I think the bus stop order was: West- North- East- South).

I recently stayed at CBR also and I thought POR buses were much better. Less people and less stops.

Int he morning time, buses can have one of the following routes:

West -> North -> East (separate bus for South only)
West -> North -> East -> South
South -> West -> North -> East
South only (separate bus for W/N/E)

Post 11:00am, most all buses will go South -> West -> North -> East, unless demand dictates otherwise.

My Wife & I have stayed in POR a few times. Buss space leaving the resort going to the parks is not a problem (unless POFQ is open - buss stops there first :( ) All of the buss stops are conveinet from their adjacent areas. We also stay in the Arcadian House (we ask for it) as it is close to the North Depot & not to far from the Pools & Main building.

Thanks everyone, but now I am more confussed than when I started. It seems that there is no real way to find out which route the bus will take. In looking at Tyler's (Chip 'n Dale Express) reply, it looks like the South (main) bus depot is most often the first or on it's own for a bus stop 75% of the time! I am leaning toward building 14, 15, 18 or 27. Is there any difference in these building except location? Which would you choose and why? Thanks again!

Bottom line is that there is *NO* fixed route. In theory, buses could start at any depot. It's all demand based.

When POFQ opens, some buses will start there first, others will be Riverside Only. It's all based on operational demand.

One bus can do one thing, and another does another thing. There are times when purely by chance, the bus you get on does the same route as the bus you got on the previous day. There is no "Always" or "never"...
