Bus Ride From HE_ _!!!

I've seen the bus windows open.
No, windows on Disney buses are not openable.

If nothing's changed since my days driving, it's likely that the driver called in the problem and was told to try to make it to the destination.

If they stopped at pop they couldn't get you to po in any easy way
Sure they could. Might take awhile to scare up an empty bus but a direct run from the "emergency dropoff" to the final destination is really a no-brainer.

Not sure whether today's models are like that but once in an earlier lifetime I was able to tilt out a window of a bus whose air conditioning had failed to bring in outside air that on that occasion was under 70 degrees compared with the 90 degrees on board. Didn't think of opening a roof vent (don't remember whether that model had that) but many buses nowadays have roof emergency exits that double as "ridge vents" that will let out hot air when side windows are open.

Some windows tilt out as emergency exits, but it is not something passengers should be doing unless it's a true emergency (as in trapped after a crash.) There's nothing to hold the windows open, and they will swing and bang against the frame as the bus moves, possibly causing damage to the windows and to passengers' fingers.

IIRC, the Gilligs have one roof hatch, but it may not be reachable unless standing on the seat. There is a way to tilt them open as vents, but again not something passengers should be doing.

I've had to stand on a Disney bus before with no air. I was so sweaty the bag I had in my hand transferred most of it's color onto my legs and arm. I didn't feel dangerous at all to me. Uncomfortable, yes. But I have to say I think you are making a big deal out of something small. No one got sick or was injured. You all arrived at your destination safely. You have no idea who the bus driver may have talked to. You had an uncomfortable ride. That is all.

I grew up in Texas and live in Hawaii - I am familiar with heat exhaustion. It is serious and the body temp can escalate quickly. One summer (105 degrees) I went from my air conditioned house to my car - which was air conditioned - but I didn't cool it down ahead of time. Just 10 minutes in the overheated car was enough to spike my temp to 104 and I was vomiting. For those who have experienced it - it is not pretty and you learn to take precautions. In Texas, people die from heat - every year. Just saying. While I am sure the driver was doing what he believed was best, I have a different perspective because of my experiences with heat. I do take water with me most everywhere though and pouring a whole bottle of water over my head does actually help in such situations. I lived 7 years in Turkey and things were most certainly not air conditioned - and it was hot in the summer. I hope everyone got back safely.

I would have been concerned that the temperature was soaring too.

I don't have a solution but I thought of a decade or so ago when

we were living in a less comfortable world. A/C was not everywhere

[ok maybe it was in Florida] but now with Laws regarding leaving pets

[and even worse children] locked in cars we have a awareness of what is right and what

is wrong. A question might be "what is the Disney protocol" for this and the many

other issues Disney guests are finding "not to their liking" Perhaps Disney has had

the problem before and did the same thing "continued on to the destination"

and the outcome was the same "no extreme danger or loss of life situation"

Sure it may happen some day but until then the status quo will remain.

To bring this issue up to the Company [Disney] is the right thing to do and if

others do the same they might make changes.

***************************************************

After many years of Not touring Disney etc in the summer we tried it again in

June 2017 . nope not going to happen again.

I was in survival mode [less than thrilled] for much of our summer vacation.

I definitely want a do-over.

Hmmm, you're comparing a short bus ride without air conditioning to what Shakespeare referred to as "the eternal bonfire"? You had never sweated before? Didn't know you could sweat?

Sorry for your troubles, but if you think this is "hell", you've clearly led a sheltered life. Having grown up in the Deep South in a house without air conditioning (and only one fan for the whole family), having grown up with cars without air conditioning (yeah, with five kids in the family, we were always touching someone), having worked on a farm, and having spent days prepping vegetables for canning /waiting 'til after dark to do the actual canning, having put the crock pot outside to prevent any additional heat in the house ... oh, the list could go on ... it's hard to consider one bad bus ride "hell".

This was a daily commute for us back in the 60s and 70s with the NY city subways no ac ever. You would come out of the subway and your clothes would be soaked.

Several years ago I was asking myself why Walt chose central Florida, so miserably hot and humid in the summer, to build his empire. Perhaps he, too, had the idea of "throw air conditioning at the problem, don't worry about energy and costs." Well, he was immensely successul, witness all the crowds.

Openable windows make a lot of difference if there is no air conditioning. Even better were vents in the ceiling which improve the ventilation more compared with just open side windows. (Hence trying to open the ceiling emergency hatch.)

I rode the subways and light rail in Boston a lot back in the 1960's and most of the cars had big fans hidden in the ceiling that at least got a breeze going in the summer. There was no air conditioning. I had seen but not ridden subway trains in NYC with ceiling fans that had big exposed blades just like the ceiling fans we (actually not I) have at home.

With big fans, the bus would feel really chilly inside with air conditioning also running full force.

Some subway trains back then had windows that opened and let all the noise in as well.

Wow! You are quick to judge. I grew up withou

Wow your quick to judge. I also grew up without AC in cars or home. I do not have A C in my house. I work at a farm in July and August outside in fields picking berries. My point was we could not open any windows!!!!!!not sure that you would ride in a car with 105 heat index mid afternoon with your windows rolled up. Anyways I was just saying what happened and how it was handled. It's not a big drama I'm not suing Disney. I guess it's not ok to post on this board about things that happen without getting attacked. I have only made a few post. This will be my last I don't need this. People suck!!!

If you post only expecting people to agree with you, any message board is not going to be a good fit for. I can't even come up with a post where every poster had the same point of view. Sorry you feel attacked.

Everyone is welcome to post on this board!!! Everyone. But, you don't get to decide that you don't like the answers you're given. As long as responses are polite, it's all good. Actually, some people do suck, but most here do NOT fall into that category. Most here have been to WDW many times, and have very valuable insights. I believe most here were just trying to give reasons for why the driver did what was done. Nobody is looking at WDW through rose tinted glasses, that's for sure. But, we also realize that, as in real life, sometimes stuff happens. I've been stuck in the monorail, with no A/C, for 30 mins. Talk about a sauna. But, there wasn't anything to be done. Yes, they could have evacuated the cars, but by the time they got the equipment there to do so, we would have been on our way. They made a choice, we were very uncomfortable, some were panicked. But, we all made it out, safely. Disney knows what it is doing.
Perhaps those that don't want to chance this kind of thing happening are better off renting a car, or taking a cab/uber.
