Bus driver, 81, charged in 3rd Disney bus crash in 2 weeks

For the record, for the oldtimers, times weren't that rosey at disney and Roy was the problem before Eisner. Real difference is that Disney could keep better secrets then. popcorn::

That I will agree with, there were many accidents at DL back a few decades ago that you'd only know about by reading some insider books like Mouse Tales.

Now everyone has a cell phone or camcorder and the moment something happens its up on sites like this one and it snowballs from there. 20 years ago that wasnt the case

The Tampa newspaper also talked about the reason we now hear about accidents at Disney - they are being forced to make them public. It did not go into detail - it just said that a few years ago Disney was ordered (don't know by who) to make public statements about certain types of accidents that occur on their property. I have a friend that was a cast member a few years ago and she said many accients happened and were quickly moved out of the public eye - or the public was moved before they saw to avoid any discussion.
I agree with a previous post that Disney has basically become too big for anyone to handle - they have to find a way to reduce the attendance or accidents will continue to happen. I just returned last night from the most miserable 7 days I have ever spent at Disney - too many people - I was there two years ago at Easter and it was nothing like this. I blame it on the specials and frankly wish they would stop running them. After this week I can kind of understand some of the traffic accidents - the roads on Disney property are horribly crowded. I saw at least six accidents this week - none with Disney transportation (although I know three occured in the days I was there). One of the accidents I have to imagine ended in a fatality - it was a head on collision - the cars were mangled horribly - of course we did not hear about that accident on the news. I am really surprised Disney has not had more accidents.

Another reason we hear more about them is the Internet...things like the DISboards, news web sites, aggregators, etc. for good or bad let us know easier and faster about things.

Has there been more shark attacks off the East Coast over the past several years? No, not really...but a news station in Boston will now report an attack of NC because it is easier for them to do so.

at $10.25 an hour, are you going to get charter coach type bus drivers? Probably not. You're going to get retired bus drivers who are picking up some extra cash. I'm with PP in the fact that accidents are few and far between. They just get made public because it's Disney. Even at Disney, not everything is perfect.

screamscape have posted an update which isnt going to help the situation at all.

If its true that the driver had been working 13hr shifts due to this mandatory overtime then it shows the true state of the penny pinching going on at disney and explains why most of the magic has gone from the CMs. It also adds a new light to the monorail incident.

For this to be true, I assume disney have been getting around the 10hr rule by making the drivers drive 10hrs and then do overtime doing some other non-driving activity?

Of course, it may not be true and may just be a rumour started up by a bitter CM.

:sad2:

Well, again, how many busses, how many miles a year and how many accidents do they have....that is the information you have to look at. I work at a place that we put lots of cars on the road for lots of mile and we have relatively few accidents, but that means about one a month or such.

Yeah, fewer busses, then everyone will say if disney prides itself on customer service they woudl have more busses, oh wait, they are already saying that.

Umm, yeah, that proved safer.

Yep, bankrupcy isn't very good for a business. But who says they aren't doing their best.

Nope, no comprehension issues here, just another post that expects something that just isn't possible. Lets look at the bus accidents this week, we have a kid riding his bike off the sidewalk into the side of a bus, could disney have prevented this? Maybe, but you can't always protect people from themselves. We have Fred who rear ended a car at a traffic light, happens to the best of them. Sure, he has a history, but how extensive and how many complaints against him? We know of one, if I got fired every time someone complained, I would never have a job (for the record, not defending Fred or Disney, just saying more information is needed on this). Maybe they put him in Driver Ed or something, who knows. There are millions of traffic accidents every year in America, more people die in traffic accidents in America from heart disease and cancer combined.

For the record, for the oldtimers, times weren't that rosey at disney and Roy was the problem before Eisner. Real difference is that Disney could keep better secrets then. popcorn::

LOL. I don't know what the heck you even said. So maybe I have the comprehension problem!:hippie:

If you think it's A-OK for Disney to accept X amount of accidents vs. Y number of guests then bully for you. The MBA's of the world will be proud. Disney used to stand for exceeding the guests expectations and yes there were accidents and cover ups in the past but the model (the Disney model, you know the one that was actually taught in college courses) is still valid regardless of whether Roy, Card, Ron, Michael or Bob were on board.

If Disney is facing serious traffic issues (and I think they've had an inkling for quite some time;), then the solution should have been an actual solution not an actuarial equation to mollify the board.

Disney isn't and hasn't faced bankruptcy ever although there was a time they were leveraged to the point of concern regarding a hostile takeover (twice) but none of this changes the tenents on which Disney was founded and (hint, hint) it wasn't profit margins.
