OH, NO!
DH just told me there was a Dis bus crash today. Sounds like maybe 5 or so hurt. No more news yet. I hope everyone is OK!!
Any Dis'ers there?
Prayers to all!:flower3:

There's some links to local news station stories over on the Transportation board. Looks like several are injured and there is only one person critically injured (the Disney bus driver).

Disney needs to provide seatbelts-They should for the kids atleast.

Seatbelts probably won't help, especially if a quick evac after an accident was needed. The only person in this crash with serious injuries is also the only person with a seatbelt.

Some reports are saying the accident happened in a thru lane, why would the other bus be stopped and the driver out if it was in a thru lane. Even if the bus was stalled the hazard lights should have been on to alert others.

Thanks for the update and the link (although I didnt get the video to work?)
I did read this on the Fox news network and thought I'd post it too.

DEVELOPING: At least eight people were injured when a Walt Disney World bus and a charter bus collided Tuesday in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, according to local reports.

The crash occurred on Epcot Center Boulevard around 2:30 p.m. ET.

The Florida Highway Patrol said that the Walt Disney World Bus rear-ended a stationary Mears tour bus. It was unclear why the accident occurred.

All of the injured passengers were aboard the Disney bus, FHP said. The Disney driver was the most seriously injured and was later airlifted to Orlando Regional Medical Center.

Tuesday's crash is the second within a year to occur on Disney property and involve a bus. In July 2009, a woman died after she crashed her car into a bus near the Contemporary Resort on World Drive.

Why, it's not practical. Even school, commuter, and tour buses don't use seat belts. Would the driver have to check to see that everyone is buckled up before each trip? And a lot of the trips have people standing. What happens then? As noted in one of the responses, the driver was the one that was seriously hurt and he or she was the only one with a seat belt. Considering how many people are transported by the DTS, it's still very safe. But, I'm kinda biased.

It's not my intent to turn this into a debate about seat belts on buses, but I wanted to get the info out there...

Seat belts for buses are being introduced, and I don't think it will be long before they are mandatory.

Motorcoach restraints
School bus restraints

I'm fine not having my kids buckled in a bus, I don't feel they're in imminent danger, but if there were seat belts available, I'd use them.

I've always seen seat belts on hotel shuttle buses, and I always buckle up in them and buckle my kids up if they're with.

Actually the way some of those buses drive I am surprised (but thankful) that there haven't been more accidents than there are. I hope all involved heal quickly.

It took me a minute to figure out exactly where they were, but I got it.They were only a few hundred feet from the Epcot Toll Plaza.Behind the busses is the ramp from World Drive, if you were coming from the western part of I4 down World Drive.Where the Havy Rescue is parked, is the ramp that would come from Epcot Center Drive, as you would come in from the East such as Orlando. The "Thru Lane" they keep referring to is the Disney Busses only lane, that goes past the toll plaza to the bus parking lot.Outside busses have always stop before the toll plaza for 1 reason or another, but I have always seen them on the other side of the road. One of the reasons, they will do this is if they are on a mandated break, or they are running very early, and want to stay out of guests eyesight. For what ever reason, this driver stopped in to what amounts to be an express lane, got off his bus and was next to it.Im not going to try and think about what made him do that, or even why the DTB didnt stop.I havent been to Epcot in a while, but Im fairly certain there is a at least 1 if not more signs that say Disney Busses only, this lane. There was when I drove out for Disney.

Our local buses here in the Roaring Fork Valley (I live in central Colorado) have seatbelts. You don't have to use them, but they are there. I have never used them.

I hope everyone who was hurt has a quick recovery. :grouphug:

Bus drivers, in case of an emergency or break down, have to stop on the side of the road, are required to pull over as far as possible or completely off, turn on the four way flashers, and display three reflective triangles per DOT guidlines.
It appears that the tour bus driver didn't have an emergency or a break down and also didn't put out the triangles. If true, that driver is in trouble as well as the DTS driver.

From what I've heard about public transportation in Mexico I think I'm better off just to go to the bathroom. Same result, and I'd get to read a magazine at the same time. :lmao:

How many Mexicans can you fit onna bus ??
ALL OF THEM !!
I'm not kidding, this is not a joke,,we got onna bus in Mexico once during rush hour and I swear to you all the Mexicans in Mexico got on !!:lmao:

It's the same in Jamaica. There are official road signs there that say

"Undertakers love overtakers"

no joke. I think that the general population doesn't understand the signs , though, because they still drive like they're jacked up on something.
