I wonder why the burger and fries are'nt on the dinner menu at the Sci-Fi? I know that you can order it and thats exactly just what I plan on having for dinner there during our Free Dining trip even though this one will be a OOP meal for us. I just wonder if they really don't want you ordering this during dinner since it is one of the cheaper menu items?

that's probably it - because it's cheaper - and most people would just order what's on the actual menu, and not bother to ask for a burger at dinner (when they'd rather you order the steak!)

How much does the burger run? Is it any good? Can you substitute fries for onion rings?

Sorry for all the questions. I just booked this tonight. Wasn't too thrilled with the menu but so excited for the experience.

I know you can order the burger and fries at the Sci-Fi even though they don't list it on the menu (did it in January! haha!)...we are going again next week and have reservations at Mama Melrose's...do you think I could get just a simple plate of spaghetti even though it's not on the menu (well it is but it's on the kids' menu!)? :confused3 :teeth:

Yup, that's definitely it: They want folks paying dinner prices for meals during the busy dinner hours, when they can make the most money. It is really generous of restaurants to honor requests for lunch items during their dinner hours. :thumbsup2

Ya, were doing it for the experience also.

Well, I must say that we enjoyed the steak at Sci-Fi for dinner! My husband kept commenting on how much he liked it.

Seems weird they dont list it on their menu after all Burgers & Fries has gotta be pretty popular:confused3

Do they get funny when you ve requested something off menu??

Plus how are you supposed to know how much its gonna cost, surely they can charge what they like if its not listed on a menu

Both the lunch and dinner menus are posted outside the restaurant, I believe. So, technically, these folks are ordering off the lunch menu. Of course, the restaurant could charge extra for providing a lunch item at dinner, but they would have to reveal the higher price at the time you order it. If I remember correctly, and as Shelley and Suzi alluded to, Sci Fi Dine In doesn't charge extra for a lunch menu item served at dinner.

It used to be that lunch was considered a time for sandwiches and such. Things you can eat with your fingers and no utensils. Dinner was a time to sit down with the family, have a full blown meal, discuss your day and relax after work and school.

As we have evolved into a society with different schedules and almost no time for family dinners, having a sandwich for dinner and eating it on the run is now becoming the norm.

We just have to wait for places to catch up to where we are. But be prepared. Lunch prices even for the same things are almost always cheaper than dinner. So that burger you can have at noon might cost you $3 more at 6:00 PM.
