Bunk mattress on floor or cot?

I will be cruising with 2 children 3 & 6, neither child can sleep on top bunk due to cognitive disabilities. Will the stateroom host put the bunk mattress on the floor for us (I don’t even want my kids to see the bunk as they’ll want it) or is it possible to request a cot (I know website says no but some have said it’s possible but their posts were old)

thanks!

Would your children be comfortable at each end of the bed? You could have the state room host set up the bed with pillows at both ends. But you would need to ask when you first get to your room so they don’t see the bed down. Because it will be set up while you are at dinner.

Bed on floor might not fit but you could do it yourself. Although kids would see the bunk area.

Did you know they have rails on three sides and a wall on the fourth?

I've never heard of a cot being available on DCL, there really isn't space. Would your youngest fit on a toddler-sized airmattress? That's probably your easiest option. There are staterooms with a murphy bed but you might need to change category/location and it could be more expensive.

I second the recommendation to speak with your stateroom host when you first visit your cabin on embarkation day afternoon; the host is usually somewhere nearby and will usually stop to introduce themselves. Let them know at that point that you don't want the bunk opened, otherwise you may return to the room after dinner and find it already set.

I don't think there is room on the floor for a mattress.
Your best bet is to get a stateroom that sleeps 5. Those have a murphy bed that pulls down.
Agree. These are bigger rooms designed to have space for that second ground level bed. Cruise ship rooms are small/compact and not like a land hotel with lots of empty floor space, but the rooms that sleep 5 with the extra murphy bed are bigger than an average room. You will pay a bit more for that room type as it is a higher category but not as much as an actual family of 5 since your aren’t paying a 5th person’s fare.

Did they have a crib option? I’m guessing the littlest one would be too heavy for guide lines of (pack n play?)

Yes, they do—you can request it under “special requests” in the website or app. Not sure if the three year old would fit comfortably—I guess that would depend on if they can still use a pack n play at home.

Years ago on cruise group, a person reported they were freaking out as their party exceeded the weight limit and had asked to have the matress put on the floor. The upper berth has a weight limit and this was not really communicated nor known to them. Basically they put the feet part of the matress a bit under the bed where the person was sleeping partially ( like the toes) under the bed. they put the table against the balcony door or against the stateroom door. There was room to sleep. Granted there is no room to walk about where you are literally stepping over people. but it is doable.
