"Bump"?

Basically, to bump a message means to put it back to the top of the list. As you know, when a message is responded to it appears at the top. So, the word bump is typed in to make this happen. I know that this explanation is confusing. Could someone give a better one?

*bump*

Hippy, I think your explanation was completely understandable. Many sites ask that you not 'bump' your own messages but it seems ok here at the Dis. It is particularly helpful on some boards where the roll to page two can happen in a matter of 2 hrs or less.

Soupermom, I just gotta ask about your name. Is that because of a connection to 'Parent Soup'? I led a board over there for two years which is why I ask? I rarely go now as I hate the board format. Anyway, just curious.

Our last name is Campbell...Campbell's Soup...we have "Souperkids2" for e-mail addresses and "Soupkd" license...thus, I am Soupermom!

So, if I type in the word BUMP, the most recent reply get's bumped to the top--first reply? Sorry, this isn't really important, but I hate to miss out on something if I need it sometime. Thanks!

when you post to a thread it goes back to the top of the list on page one.

Sometimes that is called a "bump" :)
