I had my friend who has paypal order the DCL passporter of half.com over 2 weeks ago and neither of us have received the book. I would of thought even with media mail it would of not taking that long. So now I get to pay her for the first book and then if I'm crazy enough for another one.

I would give it another week before going and buying another copy. If you and she do not receive your books you can file a complaint with paypal and get your money back.

I had a seller on ebay ship something via media mail on 6/23 and it arrived on 7/19.

Apparently media mail is taking forever these days!

media mail has been taking forever as pp suggested. i would give it atleast a month.

Media mail can take a month. Sometimes it can be much faster but unfortunately this is one of those areas where going budget really can mean getting what you paid for.

Yes, media mail can take a long time. We sold a book on amazon and of course, mailed it media mail. After about 3 weeks, the buyer became very rude accusing us of never mailing the book even though I emailed her a copy of the receipt showing how I had mailed the book the day she paid for it. She used the fact that she worked for an attorney to threaten us and I got so fed up I finally refunded her her money. Lo and behold, it finally arrived 6 weeks after being mailed.

I ordered a book off of half.com for school this past spring before school started the seller waited a month till paypal paid him before shipping the booking but the whole time was telling me it shipped out a few days after I ordered it but wouldn't give me shipping info b/c my teach was willing to work w/ me on the situation she put me out of the class I was ticked off and out a lot of money for a 20.00 book. Sorry to rant just wanted to say the seller might be holding the book till they get their money from half.com.

Just wanted to add that I bought a book off Amazon from an independent seller on July 9. After emailing him to find out what happened to the book, he sent me the tracking number that it left his area on July 10 and did not arrive until 21 days later! I was absolutely shocked that it could possibly take that long. I'd give it another couple of weeks....

That is the exact reason that I put Delivary Confirmation on everything that I ship through the USPS. You can track the item and it gives the customer the day it was mailed.

FYI: With Delivery Confirmation, the Post Office only has to scan at delivery, so it's not really tracking. Sometimes you're lucky enough to get a scan when you drop it off at a post office, and maybe one along the way, but they are only required to scan at delivery (hence delivery confirmation).

A few years back, I had sold a Nancy Drew book on eBay to a woman in either Washington or Oregon. It was shipped media mail. After 2 months, it had not arrived and we were talking refund. I finally received an email from her when she received the book - CLOSE TO 6 MONTHS AFTER MAILING!!!!!:scared1: I know this is a fluke, but after that, I've always added that media mail may take a significant time for delivery in all eBay auctions for books.

This is true..however..I ship media with books all the time and they generally arrive very quickly. I'd ask the seller when shipped. half.com has a policy that you must ship within 2-3 business days. Some buyers adhere to the policy and others don't. Those that don't should be reported.

Thank you DIS friends for your experiences. I really didn't realize it could take that long, so I'm feeling better. I almost told her send it the 2-3 day thingy for $8 more but I thought I can wait 1.5 wks for media mail. Side note Barnes and Noble said they would order it for $44, yikes :scared1:, I did purphase Birhaman? DCL for $13.95 (with a $10 gift card) which then did help us book our FIRST DCL cruise. And I still really want that book so I can look at everything and plan and plan and plan oh la la.

Media Mail is basically the USPS saying it'll get there eventually. Sometimes I have had media mail show up in 2 days, I have also had stuff take 2 months. I think it all depends on what trucks they have space/weight available heading in that general direction. If a truck is heading east, that has some space left, throw in some media mail stuff!! It probably doesn't go the most direct route, but rather the easiest/cheapest.

Iused half.com and Amazon to get my textbooks this past year. I didn't have any problems either. What I did find helpful was if I selling a book I would make sure it fit in a flat rate envelope this way I know it would get there quick and I would have confirmation. USPS priority flate rate is $4.80 I believe. Worth forking over the extra $2 if you ask me

I've sold books on Amazon and usually ship them Medial Mail without any problems. Depending on the size of the book, I will usually upgrade the shipping to Express if I can get it to fit into the flat rate envelope. The cost to me isn't much different and the customer is happy because it arrives quickly. That being said, I have never had a customer complain that the book didn't arrive on time. I've also purchased most of my DD's textbooks online and the only trouble that I had with shipping is when a seller waited several days before shipping it. The Media Mail generally came in a week or so.

I've never used half.com so I don't know if they have different rules than ebay, but I think that the Paypal rules would apply anyway wouldn't they? You have 45 days from the date of payment to file a dispute with Paypal for non-receipt of the item. It is the SELLER's responsibility to provide proof of mailing in the event of a dispute....if the Seller can't prove it was mailed, then you will receive a refund through Paypal. Be warned though, that Seller does NOT have to provide proof of DELIVERY.....so they only have to prove that they gave it to the post office for your VERIFIED address, not that the post office actually got it to you. That's why I always pay the extra $1 for insurance, because then the post office will reimburse the declared value (what you paid).

So...if you haven't received it in another week or two, file a claim. Perhaps that will get the Seller to provide you the documentation to ask the post office to look for it at least. And if the Seller didn't do their part, they'll have to refund you.

I never used to have any problems on ebay...shopped there for years....but the last 18 months or so have been so bad that it's no longer the first place I go to look for things. I've had to dispute 2 purchases as non-received this year alone! One the Seller claimed to have "lost" his receipt and proof of buying insurance, so Paypal paid me back. THe other Seller provided the isnurance proof, the post office couldn't find it, so they paid me what I'd paid Seller.....so I got my money back but I really would have preferred the item, as I got a smokin' deal on it, and haven't found another to replace it yet.

B&N would order it for $44? Which edition and which version? It's only 18.95 for the 2008 basic version through passporter's website...:confused3

Good news I got the book yesterday. The packing order said July 18th. I think we ordered it around the 10th. Thanks for your encouragement that it would arrive. D
