Bummed about resort prices in Feb.

I am really disappointed with the prices of the resorts President's weekend and beyond. We normally stay at the Poly during that time, but it was way too much money. We couldn't even get into the Wilderness Lodge with a AAA rate for less than $364 for a standard view! Passholder rates don't begin until Feb. 18, but it would still be nearly $300 a night for Wilderness and more than $400 a night for the Poly! We have never paid that much, not even during Christmas so what gives?! We love the deluxe resorts, but this trip we will be staying at POFQ so we can afford to eat while we are there! Has anyone else noticed the higher prices? :scared1: I don't know how families can afford to take their kids!

It is nuts. Your lucky to have found the 364 rate for WL though, The room I have booked through AAA is 410 before tax for several of those nights (woods view too)... reality has set in and I just can't afford it. Switching down to a value/mod combo now.

At first I was heartbroken as I had promised the kids we'd go to VWL last year but were unable to make it due to family issues. But, now I'm saying Hey - It's Disney & we're very fortunate to be able to go at all. We'll have a great time where ever we wind up :thumbsup2 I'm sure you will too!

I am also very disappointed with Disney's rates. I am not happy about them eliminating the weekend AP rates.

I agree with you there! Last year the rate that you checked in on was your rate for the entire stay. Now it is per night regardless so that they can jack up the weekend rates. I love Disney, but they are making it harder and harder to afford to go and stay on property!

They are making it difficult to visit. We won't be able to visit as much as we have in the past and I imagine it will be the same for others. We consider ourselves very good Disney customers and I see you are as well. It's too bad.

I know exactly what you mean. I keep telling myself that we really don't spend that much time in the room anyway. But it is very disappointing that last month we stayed in a Wilderness studio for about $225 per night (Dec. 205 to 24) but in Feb. we can't get a standard view regular room for less than $360! The difference is crazy. I know that we will all have a wonderful time, because it is Disney, but until people like us refuse to pay those insane prices they have no incentive to back them down.

My DH just called and made our ressie with our AP and the prices were insane ! After talking to the guy a bit and telling him that he was not going to book anything at this time . The guy told him to back up one week and the price for SS was 145.00 a night in a STUDIO . So we are doing that 2/3- 2/7 We go during the week so there will be less people . Dallas is the hub for AA so we get cheap tickets pretty much anytime . So backing up a week ment no difference to us . Our kids are grown so we go when we want to but for people with little ones they make really rough to afford a nice long trip !

Exactly why our last trip and our next two trips were are booked to stay at the Swan. Disney is testing to see just how much they can charge for their resorts and they will continue to raise the rates as long as they are filling rooms.

Glad to see I'm not the only one having a little sticker shock. We go 1-4 times a year. We are DVC members but tend to add to our vacation at other resorts and we take one cash ressie a year. My DH suggested yesterday we take a week in March, so I proceeded to look at pkg's. At the Poly (garden view)- 8 nights, 9 day park hopper, and deluxe dining for myself, DH, and 2 dd who are 2 and 1 the total was over $5000. The girls are free so thats for 2 adults!!! I didn't book anything as of yet, if no discount comes up we may book a mod or just wait until our Oct trip. I understand its around Easter but there were rooms for every resort I checked, Poly, WL, Cont., PO Riverside, French Quarter, Coronoda Springs, and the All Stars Movies and Sports. So there are plenty of rooms left for booking. SO I will play the waiting game.

There are lots of rooms also available President's weekend, probably because they are asking too much money and people are finally saying "enough!".

But then Disney is booking all of these bounce back deals, offering 30% off if you book your next trip before you leave, having you come back within the year. Alot of people are taking advantage of that, as well as the codes and AP discounts, so that makes the available rack rate rooms fewer, so they can charge a premium price for them. They are still filling thier resorts, and even though they are giving out many discounts, and even though they will lose some rack rate customers, I think they will still bring in a bigger profit this way. Not giving out an AP rate on weekends is just lining their pockets, because let's face it, you almost have to stay the weekends if you are planning a trip, and won't you pay for those Fri and Sat nights regardless of the discount or not? Like a previous poster said, you can get a 5 bedroom villa for that price, but people know all of the conveniences of staying on property, so they won't. It's like they showed us their wonderful world, made us think there was no other way to do it, got us hooked, and now we'll pay for it regardless.

Mind you, I am one of these code people, I only get to go once every two years, and can't go if I don't have a code. If you want better prices, go to WDW's website, and set up your account with your next planned Disney trip dates, or maybe even later than you planned for. I did this after our last trip, and every few months, they sent me an email or postcard saying "_____ family, come to Disneyworld sooner than you planned, here's a discount code". Never did get to go earlier, but I got 4 offers in 2007 alone, and the last one that I booked with was even better than I expected. I got the room discount and ticket upgrade, but in the email I got a 25% off Southwest flight discount code too, so our family of 4 is flying from Dallas to Orlando for $540 roundtrip incl. all taxes. So when we get home after our trip in 25 days, I'll be updating my profile on Disney's website for our next trip dates of 2 years and see how hard they try to get my business early again :goodvibes

There's no way we could ever afford to stay anywhere but a value resort....unless we won the lotto or something..............for us, with little to no time spent in the rooms, why would you spend the additional $$ for a resort with nicer surroundings if you're hardly there anyways

After months of waiting for the AP rates to be released (and a lot of rebooking) I cancelled my President's Weekend reservations yesterday.

I doubt I'll ever even attempt to book those days again.

Sorry that you had to cancel. :sad1: Unfortunately we already have plane tickets because we are cruising Feb. 9 to 16 and it would cost us nearly $500 to change our tickets. My DH's first thought was to cancel for that weekend as well, but we are locked in. Hopefully cheaper rates will come out and you will be able to visit later on.

Thanks for the tip! I am going there now to see what I can come up with, as we are coming at least a couple of more times this year and we too never stay without codes!

Disney has not eliminated weekend AP rates. They have discounts for weekend dates. They are just not as high a discount as is given for weekdays. Holiday weekends will probably not be discounted at all.

I have a Saturday booking with an AP rate that apparently cost exactly the same as my Sunday night.

I don't know if anyone else has noticed...but the rack rates for President's weekend appear to be higher even than the rack rates for Christmas week.

I noticed as well. I used a AAA rate for Feb. 16 and 17, because although when booking online under the passholder's website you can inquire about those dates the actual passholder rate doesn't start until Feb. 18. Since we aren't going home until the 19th I booked two reservations, one for the first two nights with the AAA discount and one for the last night with the passholder discount (saved me about $80!). The real test will be if POFQ gets it right even though the reservations are linked according to the CRO!

It sure is nuts...3 years ago during President's week we got the Wilderness Lodge for $139 per night...that's what the POP is costing me now for the same week...we've gone from Deluxe to mods to Value in 3 years....next year we're sleeping in the car ...HA!!!
