Bull fighting

If we were doing something barbaric I would like other countries to throw things at us. I should say "when", not "if".

Firstoff, I hate bull-fighting, too. Cruel and barbaric.

However, many European countries think having a death penalty is just as bad if not worse.

I caught part of it while waiting for Amazing race last night too. I had the same thoughts. That and what a shame that such great looking guys think that this kind of sport is OK.

Well that makes me see the whole bullfighting thing in a totally different light now. I am relieved to hear he's stabbed with spears instead of swords until he is mercifully put out of his misery.

Thanks for straightening us out.

It is a ritualist dance of life and death played out before your eyes. I'm not saying you have to like it, but I am saying it is not our's to tell those cultures that do it that they are wrong. The animal is well treated before hand, it is killed and then it is eaten. How many animals in the US that get killed to be eaten actually have a chance of taking out their executioner?

Again, I'm not asking you to like it, that's up to you, but there is much more to it than people wanting to torture a bull for a few minutes before they kill it.

I think we will have to just agree to disagree. It still doesn't make me feel any better that the bull is well treated before it's tortured and has a chance to take out it's executioner.

And for the record, I do think it should be banned but not by us. That's up to the countries that support this 'sport'.

Actually, hunting is very different IMO than bullfighting. Bullfighting is slow torture. Most hunters don't slowly torture animals. They shoot to kill and then generally eat the meat. I can live with that.

But bullfighting is no different to me than cockfighting or dogfighting- both detestable "sports" and use the term loosely.

BUT- there are lots of things I find disturbing in the world, and although I don't see it as sport I think that it should be up to the Spanish people to stop it if they see fit. And although I thin it's sad, there are just much bigger fish to fry (specifically when humans are being starved, tortured and traded into sex slavery on a daily basis).

What she said::yes::

Your first problem is your self admited non understanding. They are not poking the bull 6-8 times with a sword, they are putting spears in to tire the bull out and more importantly to break down the neck mussles so that it's head will droop enough that the matador actually can get his sword in to make a clean kill.

As for why it hasn't been banned, the answer is it is cultural, and the people of those cultures don't want it to be banned.
Actually, yes, it was swords. This was after the spears. It was clear the matadors were trying to make that clean kill, they just sucked at it. After missing so many times, they had to use a small hand knife.

Maybe this bullfight was training camp for matadors, because it was nothing like anything I've ever read or heard of bullfights, and we did read up on it before we went, because we wanted to understand what we were seeing.

Ok then, perhaps you had crappy matadors..... I have never been to one in person, but have seen many many on video, my spanish teacher in HS was the Girl Friend of the only American to ever become a full matador in Spain.
