Does anyone have a built in bread drawer in your kitchen cabinet? I'm thinking I'd like one because it would keep one more thing off the countertops. I'd like to hear who has one and how you like it.

Love it, Love it, Love it! Corrals all the bagles, rolls, leftover hotdog buns, etc. When I vaccume I run the hose around in there to clean out the crumbs every week.

I do love mine..I have a clear overlay that pulls over the breads to help avoid spoilage I do notice that they tend to go moldy a little faster all the same though...

This is what I need to do. Our bread drawer is always a mess with crumbs. Can't tell it does anything at all toward keeping bread any fresher than storing it in any other drawer. Only positive thing I can say is crumbs stay contained and we always know where the bread is.

Wow, completely forgot we had one in our kitchen where I grew up. I'm sure my mom loved it. DGrandpa built it into the wall so it wasn't in a cabinet or anything.

We had one growing up....but it always led to crumbs in the bottom---and eventually we ended up with ants.

The ants would call in the army 6 months out of the year if we had one of those. I have to keep things like cereal in Rubbermaid containers from mid-April to October, and we have to keep the bread in the refrigerator during the warmest months. That reminds me that I need to get started with this now before the ants start showing up.

I often wondered where people keep their bread. Ours is kept on the counter and looks bad, so when people come over, I stash it in the cabinet. Sometimes I forget to put it back on the counter after company leaves and by the next day it has mold on it. Mold grows much faster on bread in the dark (think 2nd grade science experiment).

I guess if you can eat up a loaf every couple of days before it goes bad it would be nice to have the bread out of sight.

We keep ours in a nice wicker basket on top of the refrigerator.

We had a bread drawer growing up. It not only held bread, but for several days, mom's wallet, unbeknownst to her. Something we never let her live down.

Same here. I LOVE it on top of the fridge. The basket makes it easy to pull down, and I never feel like something is "up there that I forgot about." I would never waste a nice drawer on bread.

My mom took the the bread drawer insert thing out after a while. She started to make bread and kept that in the fridge.

We have a bread drawer, but it is used for chocolate! :thumbsup2

We used to have one in our apartment, but they re-did our kitchens last year and they didn't put one in. I definitely miss it.

We had one in our kitchen and then this winter my husband redid our kitchen. The new cabinets didn't have a "bread drawer" but a cabinet with 3 drawers I just use the middle one for my bread. I love not seeing it on my counter.

It also states that the top of fridge is not a good storage place because it's warm and can either dry out the bread or cause condensation.
We haven't had a problem with either. Maybe because it's in the basket.

I LOVE my bread drawer ~ we had it put in when we remodeled the kitchen and I am so happy we did!

I've never had a bread drawer/box. We've always kept our bread/rolls in the refrigerator. If we want untoasted bread for a sandwhich, we take it our of the fridge for a bit before making. Maybe this is a regional difference? I feel like the bread would get moldy really fast if left out!

I live in a really humid area and don't have a problem with bread turning moldy in the bread drawer or getting stale faster. My Mom had one as well with no problems but it wasn't as humid where we lived when I was a kid.

To me, bread kept in the fridge dries out.

I do keep cinnamon raisin bread in the freezer only because I use a slice or two every week and it lasts forever in the freezer.

We just remodeled out kitchen and we now have a bread drawer. It's just a regular 24" drawer but there is a metal bread box that fits in it. I love it.
