Ok so I'm thinking about a trip in the last two weeks of September this year and whilst scanning the websites I remembered about the first trip I took to disney I think in 06 that was besieged by love bugs. :headache:

Now I know they don't sting or bite  but a little background is needed, I disturbed a wasps nest as a teenager was stung multiple times and have vivid memory's of them crawling all over me whilst they were stinging me. :scared:

I can tolerate things (even wasps and bees now) as long as they don't land on me. But freak at the crawling sensation when they land on me.

Having not been at that time of year for a long time I don't know if I'm over remembering this :worship: or are they bad every year?

Soo people what do you think is a September trip a good idea or will I spent half the trip trying not to get anxious about them landing on me?:confused3

There is nothing much you can do about lovebugs.

the only thing you could try to avoid being swarmed is to wear dark colors.
Lovebugs seem to be attracted by bright and light color. So wearing darker colors might render you less attractive (to lovebugs) than the guests around you.

I'm going in September!
I used to live in Florida and bugs were the worst in summer like anywhere else. The colder it gets, the less bugs. I doubt Sept. Will be too bad. I'm not worried about that.

I was concerned about bed bugs because last year we got attacked by some in Washington DC. We had had zero experience with them and it took a skin doctor to figure out what was going on (once she heard I had been in NYC it was clear). Bed bugs aren't so common in Austria. It was an absolute traumatizing nightmare! My skin reacted so badly and it was so much work to make sure our house was bug free.

I say this to preface how paranoid I am about picking up bugs in WDW. After a ton of searches in places like the bed bug registry and checking dates, how Disney handled it, etc. I am not paranoid anymore. I know what to look for when I get into a room before I open my suitcase and I know the precautions Dinsey takes (they move you to another room, dry clean all your clothes and give you money for a new bed bug free outfit- acceptable to me).
Just check the room when you first go in!

We've been many times in September and never experienced swarms of these Lovebugs. We have seen the odd ones but never masses of them. We may have been lucky though.

I was told by a local many many years ago that they are normally most prevalent in early September, don't know how true that is.

2006 was a bad Love bug season - we were there too. They were everywhere :scared: I haven't seen them that bad since (although the last time we did September was 2011) and I haven't seen reports of another season like that.

Typically they come out for about a week or two in May and again in September. Now it will be just luck (or not depending on how you look at it) if they are out for your visit. There is no real way to predict how made they are going to be.

We also saw a lot of them in September 2011!

Disney is very good with their pest control though. I have yet to see a bug in any of our rooms there, despite that I find a spider in my bath tub almost every day in Scotland :confused3

We noticed them a lot around the pools.

Lol. Spiders. I do not think they are any worse than a swarm if knats you see by water. I get bitten to death by these but never had any issues with the lovebugs

There have a lot of reports this year of the bugs being worse than they were in the past. Whether this is fact or a matter of perception I don't know, but do wonder if all the construction has anything to do with it if it's true. I've ordered a couple of large cans of OFF! to be delivered to our resort in any event. I haven't noticed any reference to love bugs specifically being more of a problem though. We shall see :)
