Just had a fab 17 night,18 day vacation.

Sadly I'm now back in chilly England and full of cold, but looking forward to next year.

So,back on topic-we only travelled on the ferry once, and it was super gross!
Totally not at one with nature.:rotfl2:

The way to avoid, would obviously have been to use resort transportation, but it was late, and we wanted to have seats for the journey back.

what time does the monorail finish running?
And are buses fairly regular after 12pm?:)

so what kind of bugs?
were they love bugs?
biting insects?

I have seen some pretty big spiders on that ferry boat, if not for my wife I think I would jumped over the rail and taken my chance with the aligators over the spiders I saw, I HATE spiders :rotfl2:

I don't think it's time for love bugs yet. If it was on the ferrys around Bay Lake / Lagoon, I'm thinking it may have been non-biting midges. On a few rare occasions I've seen some sort of bug plague on the Bay Lake docks that was unbelievable. There were swarms of what looked like mosquitoes everywhere all along the water. They were non-biting, and I think the ferry captains were calling them brine mosquitoes, which I've never heard of. Doing some searching, they looked like midges to me. Everyone was staying away from the docks due to how bad the swarms were.

The little tiny non-biting "mosquitos" are called blind mosquitos. In a house that's sitting empty (or even a former store, etc.) you'll see thousands of them caught in cobwebs, actually resembling dirt on the walls of the buildings. They are a pain to keep off of your house, but like the love bugs, they're harmless.
We never used the ferry often, just now and then for the atmosphere --- to me atmosphere doesn't include bugs. :-) Florida is a haven for bugs of almost any kind because the climate is kind to them.
I'm jealous of the amount of time you spent at Disney and hope that otherwise you had a great time. We're not night people and never had to worry about what time the monorail quit running. When we did leave the park at closing, we went by the resort bus back to our resort.
:thumbsup2

Ha, Ha! Spiders were my first thought too. My 12 year old grandson hates the ferry ever since he saw a spider just dangling over his head, lol. Now he spends the whole boat ride looking up.

We had a wonderful time, still not unpacked and fully back to reality yet!

I noticed a rash on my ankles/lower calves the next morning, but luckily didn't develop into anything.:woohoo:
We're not normally night folk either,it was our last night and we made the most of it! Lasted longer than I thought we would.

the rash on your ankles was most likely "Disney Rash" or golfer's vasculitis...it is caused by the heat/sun reflecting off the pavement in the parks on to your legs. I get it every time, and it is a pain. Was it like a ring of tiny red dots all the way around?

No, if they are the ones that I am thinking about, they are tiny Gnat like bugs, if not gnats.:confused3 When they gather round the lighted areas of the ferry, by the windows they look like the entire bug population of the world has descended upon you. They don't seem to bother anyone other then by their presence, but they are a little intimidating just by their numbers.

Personally, I think it is just another cost savings attempt by Disney. After AK closes they let out all the stars of "ITTBAB" to fend for themselves. That and all of their predators by that time are at home with their feet up watching Warner Bros. Cartoons completely filled up by left over french fries and are no longer in hunt mode. Come daylight and those little bugs are in severe danger. :rotfl:

Blind midges, they're harmless unless you accidentally eat one and then you'll have a nasty taste in your mouth.

They spawn twice a year, once in September/October, and then again in March/April. Nothing works on them since anything that can kill them would also harm guests.

Most entertaining!!

not medically trained(!)-rash was small and large red splodges, not raised, but bright red and I'm very white and pasty-so not a good look.:lmao:

I get it too every trip. I just try to soak my feet and lower legs in cool water each evening before bed. What a pain.

As for bugs, we have gone once in Oct and the rest of our trips have been in Nov and other than a couple of mosquitoes, we haven't had any bug issues. One of several reasons I don't want to live in FL in the summer is the bugs.
