I was at Epcot yesterday and upon entering the World Showcase, I was attacked by flying bugs. They were EVERYWHERE in Canada and England. I was just wondering if anyone else encountered this, or what. Could be due to some flower there since Flower and Garden festival is in effect.

Probably the dreaded Love Bugs. You will start seeing posts all over the boards about them soon. They are a dreaded April-May encounter. :sad2: Not sure how long they last (maybe past May), and then again in the fall.

Check this link- Did they look like the little guys in the picture?http://cricket.biol.sc.edu/luvbug.html

Yes, that's them! I had seen love bugs before, but they were always "stuck together" and not as abundant as these. Oh man, it was almost unbearable. Thanks for the info!

They were there when we were in WDW May '04. They weren't too bad though, they don't hurt you just every once and awhile you see one stuck to your shirt

They look like ants with really big wings. They appear white. I think I got bit by one.

We're going to be there close to the end of May... so will insect repellant keep them away?

Good question, I'd like to know too..also what time of day
do they typically come out??? I hate bugs, especially
flying ones, I'll freak if one sticks to my shirt--or even
worse, my hair!!!!!!! :scared1:

There are also a few other threads about these love bugs that have lots of info on them. You might want to do a search on these little critters :) :)

Love bugs are completely harmless and I've never heard of anyone being bit by one. We lived in FL for 7 years. Mostly they end up all over the front bumper of your car! LOL. They're just annoying little critters like gnats who pop up for a few weeks a few times each year. :earboy2:

Insect repellant does not seem to have an effect on them, but they are harmless and do not bite. They are very slow, clumsy bugs that just seem to run into things (which is probably why they end up on car bumpers - here in FL we tend to hose down our cars every day to get them off because though they are harmless to us humans, they are not so good to our car paint). They are, I must admit, extremely annoying, but better to encounter than some of the other well known FL creatures like snakes and gators!

The Love Bugs were out in full force at the MK yesterday..and I'm not talking about Herbie clones! :rotfl2:

I'm a Native Floridian as well, just would have been nice to find a way to avoid these guys inside the parks :)

I know about the pesticides that have been used (or at least "supposedly" have been used) in the area at Disney... I've very rarely ever been bit by anything (you know how Disney is a universe until itself)... just woulda been nice to avoid these guys, because even if they don't bite, they can be annoying... and I WISH I could keep them away :)

Those aren't lovebugs, then. Lovebugs look like mosquitoes...black with a little orange dot on their backs. They do not bite.

We were there, too. They were swarming around near Canada side of the lagoon. Not sure about the other side. By the time we came back out from our late lunch at LeCellier they were all gone. It was very annoying - even the cast members were struggling to stay composed. I don't know much about bugs - but they were black, they had silvery wings and they were pretty small. I have never seen so many flying bugs in one place in my life!

I have read that the love bug is a very close relative of the lightning bug. They even look the same up close. Here in SW Florida we have almost no lightning bugs, but we have plenty of love bugs.

If you are not afraid of catching a lightning bug, then you should have nothing to worry about. The only thing that should be afraid of them is you car's paint job.
