So I've read about bugs at VB...
Is it extremely irriating? Are they all over the place, both beach and pool?
Is in knats? Cause when i went to Savannah last I thought I was going to freak out! LOL ;)
Or is it mostiqutoes?
Just curious...
Thansk!

I am curious, too, since I am heading there in a couple of weeks and I already have the OFF with DEET packed!!!

The bugs are called noseeums (sp). The problem is in the early morning and at night. During the Day, it seems to be OK. I've wondered if avon skin so soft is effective with them.

The bugs you have probably been hearing about are "noseeums". I think the true name for these is the biting midge.

They are very tiny. We never had a problem with them in many visits until last October. We made the mistake of going down to the beach at dusk without any bug repellant on.

I was bitten numerous times and the itch is AWFUL!!!! Nothing would ease the pain. One of the lifeguards noticed I was having an awful time at the pool a few days later with the itch and she gave me some medicated things you crack open and rub on the bites. This helped.

All of the CM's at the resort know about these and they kept saying the only thing that prevents the bites is DEET. We did purchase some and wore it if we went on the beach early in the morning or at dusk. There really is no need for it during the day while the sun is out. The noseeums don't like the sun or don't come out while it is shining.

Don't worry. Just avoid the beach or pool at dawn or dusk. Use a bug repellant with DEET in it at these times. Like I said, we never had a problem in numerous trips until last year. You may not experience a problem.

I looked like I had the chicken pox. It was horrible. It was worse than any mosquito bite I have ever had.

There will be a paragraph about these in the hand out they give you when you check in.

These are also found at WDW.

I didn't notice the no seeums at Vero during the day. But at dusk, I noticed some. We always used Avon's Skin So Soft Bug repellant spray with SPF of 15 and we did fine.

Ditto here. I got eaten up by those pesky bugs when we walked on the beach at dusk. You also know when you are bitten by them unlike the mosquitoes. Needless to say, our walk on the beach did not last very long!!!!

Thanks for the advice, I just ordered some.

We've also been bitten badly by them while seated on the outside patio of the Green Cabin room. We've had them bad at Hilton Head, also.

As a side note.... while on the SS Member Cruise this past February - they were bothering us TERRIBLY while on Castaway Cay. My DH went to the First Aid "hut" and asked for some bug repellant, and she apologized that she didn't have any. She said that all the cruisers should leave comment cards requesting that they stock it - as they are asked for it CONSTANTLY. Maybe Disney fears a lawsuit from the DEET?!?

It could be our imagination, but I think they affect people differently based on body chemistry, or perhaps perfumes. They tend to affect my DH much more than they do myself...

We were at VB in May and I got bit badly the last day by the pool. I have never had a bite reaction like these. The chicken pox analogy is the best description I have heard so far. But the itch is far worse then I remember chicken pox. The only thing that helped was benydryl, topically during day and orally at night.

Take a good repellant and use it. I took it but forgot to use it the last day.

Those little buggers are so small that you can not see them very well and they can often get past normal window and door screens.

Oh yuck! Bugs love my oldest. She'll get bite a million times and her sister will be fine. Thansk for the info. So they aren't swarming then like those knats in savannah? That drives me crazy!

We were just at Hilton Head and did fine. My friend who joined us grew up in South Carolina, and knows all about bugs (I find it so charming that in the South, the giant roaches are called "Palmetto Bugs)... Anyway, she claims these little terrors are seasonal, and usually not around in the Summer... Hopefully this is true in Vero too! I got the idea they were worst in the Spring.
