I'll be going to the AKL in 7 days......so excited

I have been reading alot about BUGS :scared1: at this resort (not luv bugs), but it seems the reviews only aim towards AKL, is there really alot of bugs there (maybe because of the animals) would love to know from someone that just came back. I'm not a big fan of bugs.

I went to WDW same time last year and I don't remember there being any bugs but I stayed at CS

Lucky you! AKL in a week! There are bugs in the state of Florida, period. I think Disney does a good job of basically keeping them at bay, overall, throughout the property. Some times of the year you're going to see more than others. I didn't notice any increase in bugs at AKL vs other properties during our last visit.
Gentle advise: Don't let it concern you. Bugs come along with the warm climate.
Request: Have a mickey ears bars for me, will ya?

At least they aren't Gila monsters or scorpions! *LOL*

Haven't stayed at AKL, but I'm amazed at how well WDW manages the insects in general. Have had the odd bite (or what ever the things do), but nothing serious.

Please tell where you have read about bugs...

We were at AKL in mid-October and I don't remember anything unusual about the bugs. I think you will be fine. :)

We were there in later Sept. and the love (?) bugs were horrible. I mean horrible. We went on our deck one day in the middle of the afternoon and there must have been hundreds...on tables, chairs, just everywhere. It got to where I couldn't sit out and read a book because while they are not harmful and do not bite, it just creeped me out to have them land on me and everything around me. They also do not really fly away when you swat at them, which makes them even more annoying.

Now, I posted this on the boards back in Sept. and others have said that love bugs are around only for a small period of time (apparently in Sept. when we were there). They are not harmful. I didn't find them that annoying except for the sheer quantity. Another caveat is that we were in an AKV room, which is on a higher floor with a balcony that extends a little further than regular rooms. I did NOT see the love bug problems on other balconies when I walked down hallways, except for the area we were in. Other than that, I did not notice a single bug at all. I hope this post helps...good luck...

We were there in May and had no problem. We killed something in our room the first night (I'm thinking cause the people before us had the door open or somthing), and for the rest of the 10 days there was nothing. I'm a bugaphobe myself (you should have seen me trying to dodge the love bugs, lol), and found the hotel to be a nice bug-free environment. :goodvibes:

I read that the love bugs spend 5-7 months of their lives as larvae in the leaf litter. The adults emerge synchronously twice a year (April-May and September - October) and can form large swarms that cloud the air.

OOOO! Lucky us. Thats' exactly when we're going.

I hope there isn't a bug problem there! We will be there same time as you. Only staying for 3 days(AKV) then off to SSR. I am packing bug spray just in case!! See you there!!

We have been there twice and never had any bugs. Believe me I WOULD have remembered!!!!!! :)

We were just there in mid-October. We saw a few lovebugs on the balcony, but other than that there were no bug issues.

I'm so amazed at their ability to keep the pests away. I want the number of their pest control guy. I haven't had any bug issues anywhere on property including FW. :thumbsup2

Seriously, no worries. :)

We were there for our honeymoon last year Oct 30 - Nov 4 & didnt see a single bug

I don't remember ever having a bug problem there. But we have only stayed in Dec. Couldn't vouch for any other time of the year.
