Last week while at MK I was bitten by something but I didn't feel it. I noticed two red rings on my thigh by mid-morning. They didn't itch, but were bright red. By the next morning the one ring was atleast 5 - 6 inches in diameter with a bright red circle about 2 inches in diameter with overall swelling. The second was smaller but they both itched. Once the swelling went down about 2 - 3 days later I could see that the larger ring was actually two bites next to each other. Does anyone have any idea of what may have bit me and should I be concerned?

My sister had bites like these at WDW last year, we think we were are Downtown Disney when she got bitten the first time. Anyway, they became infected and she had to go to Center Care, they said it looked like a spider bite. She was given antibiotics and the infection cleared up but her foot was swollen for a few weeks (the 8 hour flight home didnt help much though).

We just returned last night and I was bitten several times at the MK also..I spoke with several other guests who were also bitten and they said that they were from the flies..I didn't know what to believe until our last day when I was bitten at least 3 times on the leg by a fly!!!! Guess they were right!!! So, you were probably just attacked by the old, nasty, biting flies too!!!!

As many times as I've been to Disney I've never had a problem with insect bites, until this year. We were there May4-12 and I am covered in bites. I don't know where or what got me, but I'm still scratching!

 Last Oct. while sailing & hanging around Bay Lake, our 1st day @ WDW I got a bite just like Shelly3girls. It bothered me for a few days, but the mark lingered for about 2 weeks & my leg was sore. I also did not feel the bite, but saw it the next day.
I think it is a spider. I've been bitten by flies also & it didn't look or feel like this. This year I am wearing bug spray.:earseek:

shelly3girls - did you notice any hint of a fever along with those bites? Circular rings of inflamation around the bite site can mean (though certainly not always) lyme disease. Not everyone who contracts it has severe symptoms right away. Something to discuss with your doctor anyway. Is everything ok now?

I read a post on the Camping board that there have been a lot of deer flies. They do give a nasty bite. We have them here in the Northeast, and they are not pleasant.

"Darian" is right about the Lyme disease. The area where I live in CT has a very high concentration of deer ticks. Flu-like, achy symptoms should be looked into by a physician. It is easily treated if diagnosed early.

Thank you for all of the replies. I don't know alot about Lyme's Disease, but the ring showed immediately after I was bitten (I think) doesn't it normally take a while for the ring to show if it is Lyme's? I have been bitten by those flies before and I think I would have realized immediately because they really hurt! It sounds like it may have been a spider, but I am going to call my doctor to see if I should be checked for Lyme's. Thanks again!

We just returned from WDW this week. I'm still scratching! I ended up with 13 bites on my legs, my 7 yr. old had 23 and my 9 yr. old had 22. We even used OFF when we remembered. My oldest was apparently bitten by the same thing you were. He got this huge hard knot on his leg , probably about 1.5 x 1.5 inches in diameter with the redness extending to about 3-4 inches. I was getting very concerned. Two days after the bite I marked the edges with a pen, because I decided if it got any larger I was going to get him medical attention. But finally on the 3rd day it started to get better. There were alot of mosquitoes and this other bug with triangular wings. We call them "pine flies". I thought maybe that's what bit my son.

This happened to me last May. We forgot the bug stuff our first eve. at MK and by the next morning, my legs were covered in huge, red, pulsating circular welts. One literally covered my entire kneecap. And oh, did they *itch*! LOL

We hit Walgreen's for Cortisone cream and Benadryl. The general opinion was that I'd been eaten alive by the famous Florida "no-seeums".

We were there 4/30 - 5/6 and I think my wife had bites for every day we were there. On the bright side, for every scratch she will think of disney.

We were there 5/7-5/13 and I was bitten twice by those deer flies or whatever they're called in Florida! The 1st time was in AK and the other was in MK! The same place each time....the welts were *huge* and oh soooooo itchy!!
