Since we have not yet camped at Fort Wilderness we are concerned about the level of "bug activity"......so the hubby calls it. Are the sites really woody and very "buggy" or does Disney make the bugs magically disapear? Basic question: Is there a need for bug spray at the sites? Thanks :scared: :scared:

I think it depends on what time of year you are going. I know love bugs are pretty heavy in the spring and fall. We were there last April and I don't remember bugs being a problem at all. Lot of lizards and snakes...but no bugs ;)

On our last night we sat around the campsite sharing a few beers:drinking1 with our neighbor and I got ate up by the noseeums. It was my own fault.....I was wearing shorts and didn't have any bug stray on. I felt them biting, but the bud light longnecks were flowing and I didn't want to leave. Lets just say I had a lasting impression of FW days after arriving home. (Man, can those little buggers make you ITCH)

Play it safe,,,bring the spray. We've never had a problem, but always have the spray handy.

We always keep bug spray in the camper just in case. Unless you have the Coyote/Roadrunner ACME size can of spray, it not one of those " well, if I bring the bug spray, we have to leave one of the kids because there's not enough room ":lmao: .I would say bring it and then maybe not use it. We have never needed it but, it is Florida so why risk it...

It really depends a lot on whether they have recently sprayed and how much it rains (washes off the bug spray they put on). I've had some trips where it was a bit annoying at how many biting bugs there were and I've had trips where I don't even remember seeing a biting bug.

What I hate the most though is a bug that looks kind of like a small yellow bee (I don't think it was a sweat bee...too big). They bite really hard and don't seem to mind that you taste like bug spray at all; it got to the point one October where if we stayed around the campsite we would rub ourselves down all over with bug repellent but it didn't help much. I was about ready to start wearing jeans when they finally sprayed the loop and made them go away :scared:

Its always better to HAVE and NOT NEED, than it is to NEED, and NOT HAVE.

That's it! No-see-ums are attracted to beer!

Those no-see-ums were a menace last October. Just one of the few times we actually had to use bug spray.

I'm thinking of going to the vet and getting some of those pills she gives the Wonder Beagle before he goes down to repel insects - he never gets bitten. My question, though, is if I start taking them, will I have the urge to lift my leg on a tree?

Disney has just officially announced that as part of the ongoing Year Of A Million Dreams Celebration that all bugs are being removed from Fort Wilderness and in addition they are going to keep the temperature throughout Disney World :thumbsup2 regulated this summer at 78 degrees with 65% humidity. Man, these guys are good!

Depends, if the dog is a male you might start doing something else to yourself...just because you can!

You can see by my post that I have been a member here since 2004 but I don't post that often, but that was a nice hanging curve ball that I could not resist!

what kind of snakes did you see?

according to my wife, you can smell my but from anywhere in the room.

Ok, so the general consensus is have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. We usually do keep a can in the camper, but I was just wondering. It would be nice though if we did win the bug free camping weekend should that ever fall in the year of a million dream crap. LOL On a side note........you guys are hysterical....I love it. I havent been around humor like this since the hubby retired from the Navy. I feel like Im back at home. I have been a member for a few years, but just now got back into posting. Thanks everyone!:cool1:

I believe you would actually start dragging your butt across the carpet and before you lift your leg you'll wander in cirlcles on the site to find the right spot to...well you know!:goodvibes
