Bug Spray & Safesea Nov/Dec?

We are Sailing the end of November, if bug spray or Safesea needed?

I have read it prevents sealice. Annoy bug that gets under your skin at the beach.

Sea lice are not lice at all -- or any kind of bug. That's a common misconception, though. They are the larval form of linuche unqui culata, also known as a "thimble jellyfish." Because they're tiny little baby jellyfish, when they get under your bathing suit (or under a shirt if you wear a shirt in the water), they are in prolonged contact with your skin. Their stings aren't like the sting of a big jellyfish (painful), but they tend to show up later as a rash.

To get back to the original question, November is outside the time when you're likely to have problems with sea lice. However, if you're going to put sunblock on yourself and the kids anyhow, you could get the appropriate SPF of Safe Sea and that's one less bottle to pack!

Our first two cruises were in November. Had never heard of sea lice back then and never took precautions. No problems at all. Also, never took bug spray with us. However, our sunscreen is the Avon SSS with bug guard.

We just finished our first summer cruise on 8/28. Again, debated about getting SafeSea -- decided not to spend the money. When we went into CC, it was loaded with floating urchins! We just avoided them and splashed them out of our way. We never had any effects from any bites or irritation from anything in the water. We brought bug spray for the Mexican ports, but never used it at CC. Again, no problems -- didn't need it.

For November, I wouldn't bother with either bug spray or SafeSea, but that's my personal opinion.
