Buffets on the dining plan

Hi everyone,

My sister and I will be visiting in January for 10 days. We got the DP (so excited!) and we both love to eat.
The food might be lower quality, but we love buffets. (A lot more options, all you can eat..)

We got an ADR for CM and one for Biergarten. The rest are just regular TS.
Are there any other buffets we should consider? Or any place with nice, hearty portions?
We'll be staying at Pop for 4 nights and then at the CR for 5.
I saw a lot of great breakfast pictures on the pics thread but I think we probably won't be doing breakfast that often. (Maybe once since my sister's set on having the Mickey waffles! :-))

I know I must sound like a glutton, but we're from overseas and a lot of the food here is really different so we want to try everything! :D

Thanks!!

Mickey's Backyard BBQ is about as American as it gets. It's a 2 credit meal.

Get a skillet at Whispering Canyon.

Go to Ohana for dinner.

Garden Grill at Epcot for lunch or dinner.

Cape May Cafe dinner is seafood, if you like fish.

Thanks! When you say we should get a skillet at Whispering Canyon, is that what they call a platter? ("Bottomless platter"?)
Is that considered just one TS credit for each of us on the DP?

I really like the Crystal Place. Breakfasts, lunch, and dinner are all very good.

I would recommend Boma at Animal Kingdom Lodge for breakfast. In my opinion its the best breakfast on property. Lots of standards as well as some not so standard African inspired fare.

Cape May Clambake is our favorite - have never been disappointed there! We love steamed/fried seafood, but the buffet is not limited to that.

I would say yes, the food comes out "Family Style" and you serve yourself. At least for breakfast it used to be an actual skillet but now its a long platter of food that fits better on their tiny tables.

Its one TS per person and they bring an appropriate sized platter for the number in your party. I think the pic below is for 3 since I see 3 Mickey Waffles.

+1

We are big breakfast eaters so we love the breakfast skillet and lets face it its hard to really mess up breakfast and its unlimited Mickey Waffles.

Oh and if you see Biscuits and Gravy don't react like these Brits. :)

Its really good if done right.

LOL! We're half American so I'm sure we'll manage it ;)
Thanks for the tips!

So you will only be half disgusted. :)

But anyway what "American Food" have you had? I guess I'm confused about what you would consider unique.

Yes.

Some things are less "buffet style" and more what is considered "all you care to eat." Wait staff keep refilling you. WC is a 1 TS meal, even the skillet.

Didn't at one time maybe even now they called it "All you care to enjoy"? :)

But anyway OP you can ask for more of a certain something but last time a server walked around with another platter for 3 just looking for someone to give it to and we got it when all we wanted was more waffles. :goodvibes

Other buffets you might want to consider- Tusker House, Crystal Palace, Biergarten, and Boma. We think lunch or dinner are a better value than breakfast, but YMMV.

AYCTE (family style) meals that we like- LTT Dinner, Garden Grill, Ohana.

I'm really enjoying this thread! :D
I lived in the US growing up and have visited countless times over the years so I can't say there's anything I haven't really tried or find unique. It's just that everything seems new and refreshing when it's not the food you're used to eating every day. (Especially as things are mostly kosher around here.)
I've been reading up on the new DP substitution options where you can share meals or get 3 snacks for 1 QS credit. Thinking of ways we could try as many different places as possible without paying OOP 8-)
So really buffets or 'all you care to enjoy' (you're right- I've seen that term used on menus) just give us more variety instead of having to choose one item off a menu.
I love sushi and I love meat. Sounds like WC covers the meat thing. We were thinking of doing the HDDMR but the show didn't really speak to us and it's 2 TS credits each.

Anyway, thanks for your help! WC is definitely going on our list! :cool1:

The dinner skillet at Whispering Canyon includes salad and cornbread (as starters -- I normally would try to avoid filling up on salad and bread, but both are actually quite good), followed by the skillet itself, which includes a variety of grilled/BBQ'd meats, mashed potatoes, corn on the cob and vegetables. It's definitely an All-American type of meal. While not technically a buffet, there are several different types of meats, with a few sides, so it is definitely worthy of inclusion on such a list (or so I would argue!).

Also a fan of 'Ohana (another meat-fest...but on a stick, and who doesn't love meat-on-a-stick?!), Boma or Tusker House (the latter if you want characters at some point).

As for a buffet with some entertainment value, 1900 Park Fare can be fun at dinner, with Cinderella and the stepfamily. The buffet/food is OK, but the sisters are hilarious.
