Buffet upon embarkation (Bad experiences)

lisak1 - hahahahahahahaahahhaah!!!!
Good one!

She got you, BD! And that's hard to do!

i do have my moments Rae! must be the extra cup of coffee I had this morning! ;) :p

From my own experience, I've found that Topsiders/Beach Blanket can be a little hit or miss for the buffet. So, I've tried Parrot Cay instead, and have been much happier with the food. Seems to be less crowded, seated at a table by staff, and easier to get to the buffet (which means MORE SHRIMP). My pick Parrot Cay.

Lloyd Dobler, we must be neighbors. We live about 10 minutes from March AFR. Thursday was DL's 48th birthday. There was a postcard hunt at DL, pin events, and the NFFC convention is in town. Sandygirl, if you have any questions about DLR, feel free to email me (my DD is 7). We're there quite often (in fact, we're heading there right after I post this reply). :D

Rae - don't forget to videotape the "Yankee Doodle" performance for us!

Maleficent59 - you know it girl!!!!!!!

Hey, I was stationed at March in the early 1970's - lived in the apartments next to the Race Track for a while then moved to the little town to the East (Edgemont, I think?)

LOVED it there!!!!!!

MALEFICENT59 - Thanks for the invite to e-mail you. The board says you don't accept e-mails though. I would love as much information about DLR and the surrounding area as you could give me. I want this to be a once in a lifetime experience for my DD. She will turn 6 while we are at DLR. I do check the posts on the board for DL, but it is not as active a board as the WDW or DCL boards.

So far my itinerary looks like this:
Arrive Tues around 1:30PM
PS for Goofy's Kitchen 5:30 PM
Maybe head to DL for 8 PM parade and fireworks
Wed (Birthday) spend the day at DL, Plaza Birthday Party at 1 PM
Thurs spend the day at DCA, PS Ariel's 11:30 AM
Fri see something of the area (the coast, LA, anything that we can't see on the east coast)
Fri evening back at DL to catch anything we missed or do a favorite again
Sat breakfast in the park, leave for home out of SNA

We are staying at the DLH and need to fit in time for the Neverland Pool. Peter Pan is DD's favorite.

Thanks to the rest of the posters for your indulgence

sandygirl - no thanks necessary for our "indulgence" - we are a loving, fun family group here!

Maybe it's just me....perhaps I will be eating chicken fingers at Plutos in Sept.

Anyways, just wondering if anyone else thought the same. Thanks!

We must have been very lucky - or kids are some of the most picky eaters (I'm sure many parents say this) but we never had a problem finding something for the kids to eat, especially at the buffet. I love the idea about going up to Pluto's for a burger, though, as I'm sure my kids will. I also must mention my son was diagnosed with Type I diabetes the month before we left, so we had to watch his diet a little more closely. We still never wanted for getting him something to eat - and he's the kind of eater that wants everything "plain"...

We did eat a lot of chicken fingers, though. They are some of the best chicken fingers I have had - McDonald's could learn a lot....

Sandygirl,

I'd recommend doing the character breakfast at Goofy's Kitchen while you're there. It's pretty pricey, but I'd bet your daughter will have a lot of fun with it. We did it with some friends for their daughter's 5th birthday, and she loved it.

As far as the pool goes, I'd recommend heading back there in the mid-afternoon, as that's when the parks are the hottest. Take a break for a couple of hours, swim, maybe a nap for your daughter. Then head back to the park for dinner and the rest of the evening. You'll feel really refreshed.

Feel free to PM or email me if you have any questions. My wife and I practically live at DL.

Sorry! I just changed my profile to accept email. Your itinerary looks great! I will also send you a PM.

Rae, we'll be on the Magic 2 weeks after you. We will see Fidelio, request MacLean's rotation (my favorite server works under MacLean), and in general, do nothing! Looking forward to the embarkation buffet - the mango soup in particular. Leave some shrimp for us! ;) -Sarah

Great to hear you will be at Fidelio's shows - he is the greatest entertainer you will ever hear/see!

Ohhh, yes, Maclean is tops at the DCL! And apparently all his servers are excellent but I also have my favorites (my best server has gone back to Brazil to be with his family though!)

OHHH mango soup! I have been thinking about how great it would be as a rum enhanced drink - might just try it!!!!!

Shrimp? I heard Disney no longer has shrimp available. Sorry (tee hee hee!)
