What is the proper amount to tip at the buffets (Boma, 1900 Park Fare, etc) I don't necessarily want to tip 18% since essentially they are just clearing my dishes, but I don't want to seem cheap either !

Hi I think that for a buffet a tip must be from 10 to 15 % depend of the quality of the service.

popcorn:: popcorn:: and a little popcorn:: for my friends who need some..:rotfl:

Yep. That is why on second thought, I deleted my post. (ofcourse, someone might already be quoting it, then it's too late  ) I just don't feel comfortable sharing some of my thoughts/opinions on these boards. Some wear the flame suit well, I'm just not one of them. I like to live in peace with all people. ;)

I tip the same for Disney buffets as I do for table service. The wait person brings and refills drinks, clears far more dishes than if I ordered from a menu, tells me about the buffet, helps with any special needs, and does all this on my schedule, not thiers. I think that's worth the around 20% tip I leave.

We found, on our trip last month, that the servers at the buffet restaurants we ate at worked a lot harder than at the restaurants where they served us. They were really busting their butts to clear plates and refill drinks! We were a party of 6 so we had the mandatory 18% tacked on but we would have paid that anyway!

That's pretty much the way I see it.

I noticed the same thing. Plus, my server was also cleaning her own tables after the guests left.

If I get good service they get a good tip no matter if it is a buffet or full service restaurant. :)

Yep. We are real piggies at Boma and the server has to clear dishes, refill drinks, bring second glasses of wine -we see our server much more at Boma than at any non-buffet sit down.

We've been on the DP the past two years, and have added cash to the 18% TS tip (that used to be included) on many occasions for sit down meals. I have not found the waitress/waiter that made me feel it necessary to add to the 18% for the buffets we visited. There were some that I think deserved less (no drink refills, slow plate clearing, etc). Unless the service warrants more, I'm looking at starting at 13% tip for a buffet. I'll bring extra $ to leave more if DD5 leaves a mess, or if the server deserves it. Regardless of the service, I doubt we'd ever leave less than 11% (even if server dropped coffee in our laps). So, our range for buffets will be 11% - 20%, but the tip will probably end up somewhere in the middle.

I was at Crystal Palace last month, out of the 4 of us 2 were on DDP. I handed the waitress the DDP card for the one receipt & the other party used the DDE card. She automaticlly charged 18% tip to my room w/ out even asking me! I know this is automatic w/ DDE, but it's not w/ DDP. I was appauled that she did this, but not wanting to have an argument while on vacation, I said nothing. She was probably going to get a tip of that amount anyway, but I felt she had no right of just giving it to herself & charging my card! Watch you receipts!

I agree. The only thing they do not do is take my food order and bring my plates to me. That's not that much less work?!?!?!

I have my tip envelopes all filled and I will be sure that nothing is added to the slip since I am on the DDP, and if the service is better than what I have in the envelope I will leave more...

DH and I leave 10% at buffets. We arent very huge and messy eaters. We might have 2 plates each and 1 bowl or a plate for dessert each and thats it. And then out of habit, I even do this at regular TS both in Disney and here at home restaurants, but I grab all the plates stack them together and put the silverware on top. That way all the person has to do is just swing by and grab the stuff and thats it. So even though we might leave 10% for buffets (15% for TS) we dont make huge messes and I even help clean up by stacking up everything.
