Buffet thoughts

Honestly, the buffets scare me... BUT, I'm thinking I may want to at least try one on this next trip in July-more than likely a breakfast one although we tend to be pretty noctuturnal at WDW so I'll consider all. What are the hours at the various buffets- what's the earliest/latest times? Oh and the background info- I will be traveling alone with my 2 boys- ages 11 and 12.. The 11 yr old doesnt eat much- he's very picky and food is just this "annoying thing" that I make him do every so often but he would love antics and as long as he can find something chocolate he will be ok.. Son#2 is 12 and has recently become an eating machine but he is still rather picky- not much meat, not many veggies, mainly plain food.. He has Asperger's and it may be best to do the least chaotic or quietest time for him... Any thoughts anyone?

You can't go wrong with Crystal Palace and Chef Mickey's. Been to dinner at both and to breakfast at CP. Both are kept very neat and clean. Service is excellent at both. CP is probably a little lower key than CM's.

CP was fun. They had so many choices and with the characters too it made for a most enjoyable meal.

i love CP for dinner too and i am still one of those who like H&V @ DHS --i have my ADR for dinner in Sept ...not sure if they still serve Bfast but we did it 2x and loved it:goodvibes

Crystal Palace (MK) is an awesome dinner buffet! There is something for everyone and then some! :goodvibes We also love Boma, but that is kind of scary if you have "picky ones" in the party. For us, DS is picky and I can be, DH is not at all. We all loved CP & Boma! DS & I even liked Boma a tad better than the "non picky" hubby did! :rotfl:

I think I see why it's scary. CP as others have mentioned is a great buffet. I think you'll find something for everyone. Since it is the Pooh characters, they are a little calmer than some other buffets. They will spend a lot of time with diners and it's something your son may enjoy. Think about it.

Does anyone know if the buffets, esp CP since this is what everyone is referring to, are less crowded at opening or at the latest hours for breakfast- what are opening times and latest breakfast times?

How loud and chaotic are the lines in here? Are the lines kinda supervised by CMS? or is it one big "free for all" with people shoving and pushing to get to the food? Are there many food stations set up or just just one giant line in the center that takes a really long time to get through?

First what meal do your boys like best. If it is breakfast then go with Cape May at the beach Club do a later sitting we like 10:15. It is the calmest one we have been to. And the boys really like Goofy, Chip & dale. We also enjoy CP for lunch. If you try to pick off hours it should be better. Chef Mickey is crazy fun, but it does get kinda wild.

I've done breakfast at CP. There are two lines; one for each side of the restaurant that join up in the middle at the omelet station. The lines have always been very orderly; I've never seen any pushing.

Another option might be Liberty Tree Tavern for dinner. They bring the food to your table family style. I think it's less hectic than buffets. They have ham, turkey, roast beef, mac & cheese, beans...it's like a thanksgiving feast. I think the character interaction is the best here! Goofy, Pluto, Chip & Dale, and Minnie have always made it to our tables twice during dinner and they really play along. Whereas at CP, you're lucky if the characters come around once and there isn't much time with them.

The only time we've done breakfast buffets has been on our last day. And we've done Park Fare as well as 'Ohana. I heartily rec. both. However, if you are looking for chocolate, then PF would be better. 'Ohana doesn't have anything choc. at breakfast. Since it's our last day, I always schedule as late an ADR as possible. Last year we did 'Ohana at 11 a.m. Year before, PF 10:45. I really can rec. a late breakfast-the character interaction is better, the room is less crowded, it's very relaxing. By the end of your meal the room should be almost empty. In that case, the characters come around multiple times. It's great! We're going to do it again this Sept-haven't decided which one yet.

I get as late as possible so we will be all packed up and ready to check out before breakfast. This works for us since we have a rental vehicle to keep out things in (other than our bags which we airline check at the resort) :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 Then we spend the rest of the day, visiting other resorts, going to DTD, getting food for the plane, etc.
