I'm sure I know the answer to this question, but can you take any food away from a buffet? Like for the breakfast buffet could you take a piece of fruit for later or a muffin? I was thinking that I could see my son refusing to eat breakfast and then an hour or two later whining that he's hungry. It would be nice to not have to buy something then.

I don't know for sure, but I can't see why you would not be permitted to bring a piece of fruit or a small muffin....I would not go stuffing my pockets but something small for a child, I see no problem....

I think many times at buffets and all you can eat they "discourage" taking food with you - that is they won't give you a container..... but something slipped in a purse or bag - who would really know (just remember a zip loc!!!)

We ran into that at the Hoop Dee Doo Review - DD asked for my chicken, a whole bucket was brought to the table, and not even touched - I jokingly said (with no intentions of bringing it with) that we should take it for a late night snack, and the waiter said since it was all you could eat, they did not allow "doggie bags"

They do frown on taking food away because they can't control how the food is stored. Then if people get sick, they blame the restaurant. That said, we have taken a piece of fruit or part of a bagel away and had it later. As long as you don't go overboard on what you take out, they probably won't say anything.

If your son didnt eat at the buffet, dont pay for his kids meal (if on DDp, dont use the credit. if he honnestly refused to eat, as you said) Use the $ or credit later, when he is hungry. Definitely a no-no to swipe food :sad2:

No, you definitely can't get a to-go box from a buffet. It defeats the purpose of "all you can eat."

Why don't you skip the buffets if you're afraid your son won't eat?

Just curious. Wouldn't that apply to other TS restaurants as well? Even counter service, if you think about it. Not flaming. Just asking. :)

I must admit I've taken a chocolate chip cookie from Chef Mickey's for my 6 year old that she brought to the table but didn't eat. Never really though much about it. :scratchin

When we were at Hoop Dee Doo in Dec 2004, the table next to us hads BAGS of food that they had wrapped up and took home - maybe it's changed since then, but we couldn't believe it!!!!

when we ate at Donald's the waiter was giving us boxes of cereal, and fruit to take with us, actually bringing it to the table! We hadn't even asked or mentioned anything, it was totally unprovoked!
I know for a fact that I have taken cookies with me from Crystal Palace, I was too full to eat them, and they were on my plate, I certainly wasn't going to put them back on the buffet!

My son is a picky eater and I've actually planned buffets on the hope that with so many choices he'll find something he likes. And some days he can eat me under the table but others he'll just refuse to eat outright. If I took a plate for him, even if he didn't eat anything I'd have to pay, so you figure what's the difference if he eats the banana at the table or if I put in a bag for later. OTOH, I can't imagine filling up bags of food like that other poster mentioned, lol.

I think there's a big difference between grabbing a banana or an apple for later or taking a muffin or a cookie wrapped in a napkin and, say, oh, I don't know . . . . filling your pockets with scrambled eggs. I seriously doubt Mickey's going to raise a fuss about you grabbing a piece of fruit to go.

If you child eats parctically nothing, ask your server if it may be ok to take a piece of fruit or muffin with you.

We went last June for our DD 2nd birthday. We arrived later in the evening on our first day and thought we could enjoy a late dinner at the buffet at FW, as we were staring at VWL and it was only a boat ride away, but our DD had other ideas. We basically ate nothing from the buffet as we thought it would be better to go to the room and relax. Our server noticed the trouble that we were having and gave us a to go container and let us take what we wanted. We did not request this, they just offered.

It can't hurt to ask.

I believe you're correct: The reason why take-away is frowned on is that the buffet is priced based on the agreement that the food will be consumed on-premises, during that same visit. It isn't a matter of control over food storage.

When we were at Chef Mickey's last April, our very thoughtful waitress
gave my son a cupcake at the end of our breakfast. He wasn't hungry so she put it in a paper cup so he could take it with him. If you were to take something for a snack, they probably won't bother you.

I'm sure the waitstaff can tell the difference between someone hoarding food and someone taking a fruit or muffin, especially if it were already on your table. From what I've seen, they're very understanding when it comes to the kiddies. :sunny:
