Buffet Lines - Is It Really a Line?

I have not seen ANY buffet that has a one-way only buffet line with a start to finish....

Cape May Buffet at dinnertime is one I can think of.

We had dinner there twice during our last trip & there was definitely a "line going in just one direction".

This isn't at any of the buffets in WDW but in Toronto my family and I like to eat a buffet called the Mandarian. Well there are some items they offer that I don't feel like eating and there are some which I always like to take. Anyway if there is an opening at the area where the food is that I like then I will just go right up to it and not walk down past the foods I don't want. Now if there is a line all around then I will wait, however when I have walked past someone already getting food they never said to go back and start from the begining of the section.

Most buffets are in sections - salads, pasta, carved meats, etc. etc.

So if I've been standing in line at the parks all day - I'm NOT going to be standing in line at a buffet. Give me all the dirty looks you want. If you're at a section where I don't want anything, then I'm going around you.

On the other hand I agree with what some others have said, if you are getting something I want too then I will stand behind you (not next to you) and politely wait my turn.

And if I am getting something and someone is standing next to me waiting for me to move along I tend to politely say "you can go around me if you'd like".

I'm not a sheep. ;)

I used to think you needed to stand in line and wait for everyone else to make their way. After all, I learned that in the cafeteria back in school.

Last cruise I took, on Embarkation day, they direct everyone to the buffet as you board. There was a huge line that wasn't moving. I waited a few minutes and when I realized the line wasn't moving I went somewhere else and had rather disappointing pizza. But I found out later the buffet had stations. I didn't wait in that line again.

More and more buffets are arranged by station - there might be a hot food station, a sandwich station, a salad station, an Asian station, etc. Not everyone stops at all those stations. So now I check out how the buffet is set up. If it's by stations, I just go get into the line at that station, if there is one.

However, I was in one buffet many years ago, that was not arranged in stations. It was just a line. I had to wait a while before getting to a plate to get anything. It did irritate me when I was trying to get through the line as quickly as possible so as to not old up those behind me, and these people kept cutting in front of me saying "oh I've already been through the line, I just want to get more of this". Like that somehow made it o.k. to cut the line and hold everyone else up.

Then again, I also get lots of dirty looks when a long line has formed to the right side of a CS CM and I walk to the left and order next. Those are the people who tend to really get mad. I just call it the "not my problem you don't know the lines form on both sides" technique. :thumbsup2

Got that same dirty look at the log flume ride at 6 Flags years ago - not my fault they didn't realize that there are 2 lines... :confused3

A lot of the time I consider the lines to be "directional." You start at the beginning and travel in the appropriate direction, however if there is a gap in the line it is perfectly appropriate to skip parts you are not interested in, as long as you stay in the correct direction and do not get in anyone elses way. Really by skipping ahead you are helping everyone get there food more efficiently.

Of course this does not apply to the old fashioned roped-off all you can eat places that always have long lines.

If there is an established line, or when the bufet typically opens I will wait in line and follow along like the good little drone! However, I really dislike buffets and the only Disney buffet I do is Boma, and at Boma people will hover at the roast beef area for eons while theres rarely anyone at the soup and salad section, so yes I cut the line and head straight there!

I woudln't do it if others were in a full line heading there but if there is a huge break in the line, I'll just go and get what I want, just like the dessert section. People don't wait in the whole line to get to the desserts if they've already eaten their meal! I think it's no different.

Exactly

I wonder how the rules play out at Cape May? A previous poster said there are pretty much lines but I recall another post that pointed out that it's chum in the water when a fresh dish of crab legs come out. :scared1:

I find Cape May to be one of those where you can jump in where you'd like, as long as you move in the right direction. However, I'm not big on the crab/clam thing, so I've never had to fight anybody for that spot! Just keep moving clockwise, people, an I'll be happy

It's a buffet, it's endless food and plenty to go around so honestly if you were to scoot infront of me and grab a scoop of whatever it wouldn't bother me,and if I see a giant gap in an area where I just want one thing then yes I will scoot on over. Now ppl (mostly little kids) grabbing things with hands changing their mind and putting it back...that bothers me...lol yuck!:rotfl:

:lmao: I taught my son when he was small, "You touch and fondle it, it's yours wether you still want it or not." Then again, some adults could bear to be taught the same thing! :lmao:

LOL I so totally agree and this is why I wash my fruits and veggies extra good once I get home from food shopping:rotfl2:
