buffalo shopping

DS is flying out of Buffalo next week and we have to drop him off. Want to do some outlet shopping while we're there. Any suggestions? Also how much can we bring back through customs without paying duty?

Hi, from Paris, Ontario. Alls I know is we are heading over the Port Huron border on Friday for one night and we are allowed $50.00 per person.We go over to Buffalo all the time shopping. And have no problem. We make sure we have all the reciepts seperated per person, no beer or tobbaco. We also make sure we hit Tops Grocerie store, Walmart and Target and have a good time.

If your dropping him at the Buffalo airport your really really really close to Walden Galleria. Its a big Mall.. across the street is a Target and a TGI fridays. If you cross over at the Queenston -Lewiston Bridge there is the Prime outlets on Niagara Falls Blvd Exit. come off the Highway and get on Military Road and you cant miss it.

Is great too...there's a 'Coach outlet' store and a Lauren store, Burberry, Liz Claiborne. Tommy Hilfiger...good buys!!

Whether you pay tax is up to Canada Customs and what mood they're in! Sometime they send you in for $40 and other times wave you through having declared $400??? I thinnk technically...they usually let up to $50 go by..but really you are supposed to be out of the country for more than 24 hrs to be entitled.

I think the trick is to be honest with them. If they think you might be lying then they start with more questions. Last year, 4 of us came back from Buffalo with 7 bridesmaids dresses at about $150US each and about $200US from Bath and Body Works with out an issue. We had all the receipts ready and had set aside enough money for customs. The guy just laughed at us, congratulated the bride-to-be and waved us through.

I also think it depends on what day you go over too. When we have gone a friday-sunday we get pulled over. Weekdays the border gaurds have let us through no problem. We had one guy who didnt even look up from his magazine. They were on work to rule a while ago and I never heard if there contract was settled or not. Makes me wonder.

The contract was settled a long time ago (like Oct) haven't been on work to rule since then.
