Someone on the board asked what Kimmewick was:

Kimmewick is a specially made roll with a special coarse salt on the the top. These are made in the Buffalo NY area and are flown all over. It seems to bring out the best in your Roast Beef Sandwich. We are well known for RB on Kimmewick along with the famous Buffalo Chicken Wings also flown all over. Too bad so many try to copy our receipe and they call them Buffalo Style Chicken or Wings, but no comparision.

Our wings must be deep fried, then tossed with a combination of Franks Hot sauce and butter. The hotter you want them the more Franks you use. We like ours suicidal style :scared1:We usually throw the wings in a big bucket with a snap on lid with the sauce mix and shake until completely covered. Then serve with carrot and celery sticks with a side of blue cheese dip. MMMMMMMMMMMMM :p It seems almost every restuarant and bar serve chicken wings in Buffalo.

Has anyone ever had either the Roast Beek w/Kimmewick (sp) or Buffalo Chicken Wings?

If not what is your favorite snack for out with your friends.

I've had the joy of eating both! A roast beef sandwich just isn't the same without the right bun! Aren't there carraway seeds on top with the salt, too??

As for wings, yumm!! Except right now, we're doing chicken "lips" -- boneless pieces of white meat, deep fried and then tossed with our favorite mix of Franks Red Hot sauce, butter and a splash of Old GrandDad! Gotta have a beer, too!

I went to college at SUNY Geneseo and I must say, when I arrived there from Long Island in the early 80's, chicken wings had not made much of a debut outside of the northwestern NY area. As I drove down the main drag with my parents, all of the bars had huge signs advertising their chicken wings. I kept wondering what they did with the rest of the chicken! It did not take me long, however, to acquire a taste for 10 cent wings and 3 dollar pitchers (you could drink at age 18 back then) on a Friday afternoon. Wings were so popular for happy hour that by Friday morning, the entire campus would smell like fried chicken wings. Ahhh, the good old days.

By the way, Poochie, it is hard to get a properly prepared wing outside of the western NY area. There is a chain by me and they have about a dozen different types of sauces for the wings! Yuck. I'm a purist at heart. Ate my share of what we called "beef on wick" back in the day too.

Just saying "HI" fellow WNYer!

Gotta love wings and beef on wick!Yummy!

Yes there are caraway seeds also on the rolls. Also what you call lips we call Chicken fingers Those you can have with the Franks Hot Sauce or bar-b-q sauce.

Later this summer we have a Chicken Wing Festival. Can't you image all those wings for the eating. :cloud9: :teeth:

i lived in the south towns for a few years, and my mouth started watering when i saw this thread.
nothing better then 10 cent wings and a bucket of OV splits!!
or biting into a beef on wick after the roll was dipped into the juice!!!!!!

sorry never could handle drinking a jenny though.:) :)

Buffalo girl right here.:D Love my wings extra hot with blue cheese and celery.

I love roast beef, but I must confess, I'm a bad Buffalonian, I really don't like it on weck. A plain hard roll works for me just fine - but not without the purple horseradish from the Broadway Market.;) Yum.:D

I gave up on restaurant wings ages ago. Just make them at home now. I deep fry mine and use Frank's hot sauce. Tried different hot sauces and found that Frank's was indeed the best out on the market. Unfortunately, I have never seen a Kimmewick down here in Florida. I keep telling DH that we have to travel up north to taste some real food. We use to have a family owned bagel shop down here (only one location in town) that made the best bagels in the world. Sadly they closed down and I have yet to find a decent everything bagel.

Ok now you guys have me wanting some wings and beer...thanks alot...my first day back on WW too!

My fav beef on weck comes from Charlie The Butchers. I don't like horseradish, just dip the rolls in the juices.

There is a restaurant near me, actually a rib joint, that serves the best buffalo-style wings I have had outside of Buffalo. They are true to the original recipe, depfried wings, Frank's Red Hot and butter. They even make their own blue-cheese dressing. Mild, medium and hot, that's it. No suicide, homicide, garlic herb or barbeque 'wings'.

Charlie the Butchers has good Roast Beef, sometimes go there on lunch hour. But have you tried Schwabels in West Seneca, on Center and Union. The beef is hand carved so moist and tender it is almost sweet. And of course a side of fries with brown beef gravy and a cold one from the tap to make it perfect. :drinking1

Yummy!!! Oh the days of 10 cent wings, I remember them well.

This is off the beef on weck and wing topic, but when Schwabels was mentioned the first thing I thought of on Center Rd. was Kone King! I just love their unusual custard flavors like the butter rum I had last week. And my favorite Mexican restaurant is South of The Border next door!

Anyway, you have to love the food in WNY and I'm pretty hungry now:tongue:

I'm with you there!!!! Oh well!! I kind of find it funny when we're traveling far away from home and I see "Buffalo Wings" on the menu.

i still remember those late night breakfests at the "town" restaurant . gotta love a souvlaki at 4:30 am after drinking all night.

I love wings and I really love Franks hot sauce, it's the best.

When I travelled to Buffalo, our group insisted on stopping at the Anchor Bar, for some original Buffalo Wings. I'm not normally a hot wings-type person, and even I thought they were good.
