Buffalo ... bad weather on Friday?

Hello ... we have flights booked with AirTran on Friday at 3 pm. What if the weather is really bad and the flights are cancelled? What in the heck do I do then??? I am starting to panic a bit here as they say a huge system is moving in on Friday that will be even worse than what we are experiencing with the current storm in Southern Ontario. This was my biggest fear of booking a flight from Buffalo ... and now it seems like it might come true!!!

So anyways ... what do I do??? I've searched the AirTran site, but can't seem to see any number you'd call to find out about cancellations and such ... I don't have a laptop (would buy one, but doubt we could have it up and running by tomorrow ... lol) ... so what is the first thing you do if your flight is cancelled??? Anyone been through this? I just can't imagine that we'd be able to get many other flights as they are pretty booked up for all of the March breakers flying out on the weekend ....

Please help me figure out at least what I should do in the event of a cancellation!!! My first thought is jump in the van and just drive, but what about our flights home ... doubt they'd just reimburse the money for that one!

I know I need to calm down ... but I'm sorry I am a type A personality ... pre plan, plan, and plan again .... this is NOT in my plan!!!!

Thank you so much ...

Can you leave on Thursday, if you can call and see if there is anything for Thursday?

When I came back in December I had an email from Air Tran saying weather delays may affect my flight and did I want to change flights. I was in Orlando and it was the return flight so I did not get the email in time, so that leads me to believe that they will change flights, I am sure they want as few people as possible that they have to try and find new flights for.

no worries.. I've always heard that Buffalo Airport can handle the snow.
Just in case I would call them see if you can change your flight to thursday but I think that by Friday 3pm most of the snow should be cleared and you would be ok.
If anything your flight might be delayed and the ride might be a little bumpy.
I would not drive.

we flew back in December during that big strom and landed withouth any probelms ... the flight was on time, actually landed before our scheduled arival time. The ride was just a bit bumpy and we had to keep our seatbelts on the whole way. But other than that it was ok...
The drive home was worse.

Let Go Let God

You can't control the weather or the airline so try not to worry about it.

Just do things that you can control and let the rest go.

Call Disney and tell them that you might be late.....they'll understand.

Call the airline and tell them about your worries....they will advise you what they'll do.

Say this to yourself:

God, grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
the courage to change the things I can;
and the wisdom to know the difference.

Its calling for 1 to 3 ",but that could change.
Buffalo is indeed well trained in dealing with snow anyway.
I'm sure you'll be fine.

Thank you!! I must remember that little saying Sandra!!! I have discovered I am possibly more a pessimist than an optimist ... what can you do?

Anyways, I've heard it might start at night so hopefully we are gone, but I do hope it isn't too bad as I don't want all the other March Breakers getting caught in it for driving!

I can't change to Thursday, as I teach, so I am stuck with Friday. If I had chosen a non-direct flight we could have probably gone earlier in the day, but we wanted direct. Oh well ... again ... just want to get there :)

Thanks again ...

I had a group flying Feb 1/08 and Buffalo airport cancelled most of their flights. My group was heading for the Disney Magic so time was crucial. Two families chose to drive to Pittsburgh and Cleveland and Southwest honoured their tickets out of there. Others changed to the day before when they heard about the pending storm. Luckily Air Tran was one of the few airlines that were able to take off that day.
In all cases, the passengers called my office (I'm a travel agent) for help and thank goodness they did. All of the them had cancellation insurance and their expenses were paid back. Including a new set of tickets on another airline. If your flight is cancelled get it in writing as to the reason for cancellation (due to weather) so that you can make a claim through your cancellation insurance.

In most cases, Buffalo can handle the snow, it's the freezing rain that is a problem. Keep your cool and be nice to the gate agent. You catch more flights with honey! :):goodvibes

We are leaving Sat morning from Buffalo on SW and now they are calling for a storm, sleet and snow.Yikes!!! I hope that they are wrong. I have been watching the forecast all week but I too am a teacher and can't leave til friday after school. I hope all affected make it safely and as quickly as possible to orlando or wherever their vacation destination might be.pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: We might need a bit of this. Good Luck to all travellers!

Call the airline...they are usually quite happy to re-book people before the bad weather hits. It is easier for them to handle.

Someone mentioned weather being a concern about booking from Buffalo....just remember we all get bad weather around hear. YYZ has been shut down too and they, in my experience, are a lot less accomodating than BUF.
