Ahoy sailors~

I am in my pre-cruise planning stages now and trying to budget out all my costs - most of which I can figure out from posted prices. (excursions, spa treatments, etc.) One thing I am curious about is the cost of souvenirs on the ship. I hear the items are even MORE expensive than WDW. I will most likely want to purchase beach towels, tshirts, hats that kind of thing. Can any of you who have gone recently give me a ballpark cost on some of these items. For example how much for a large beach towel or large tshirt? It doesn't have to be exact. I'm just trying to figure out what kind of money to expect to spend.

Thank you!!!

We have sailed 13 times on DCL and have been to WDW over 40 times....I have not found anything onboard higher priced for a comparable item than at WDW.

We spent around $100.00 for 3 beach towels, 1 beach blanket and a few (sorry do not recall how many) postcards.

Hope this helps, oh and those we picked up on CC but they were they same $ onboard.

That sounds about right....beach towels are about $20-$22 each and the beach blanket (double size) is about $40.

Often they have a sale section onboard as well.

Prices onboard are generally much the same as in shops for Disney merchandise, and is well-known for being more expensive than other similar items. However, the quality of the goods are superior and you cant getDisney Cruiseline items anywhere else. (Ok, probably ebay - before anyone else says so!)

I bought: really nice fold-up shopping bag $16
DisneyPens $2.50
Playing cards $4
Bath towel $20
T shirt $20
Lanyards $5 each
Photo-album (medium size) $15
Toy ship/bus $8
(All approx prices).

We were very tempted by some of the ornaments, and especially the
glass "Disney ship", but they were approx $200 (or there abouts) so we decided to spend our money on excursions and photos. (Professional photos on board approx $12 each)

They do have various special offers during the week on items like watches ($20upwards) and jewellery (very reasonable), so keep you eye out for the bargains.

Just remember if you really want a cruise-line item, you probably will never find it elsewhere, so you may be best to "bite the bullet" and pay out the extra few $s to secure the item during the cruise. Besides, most people will spend far more than they budgeted for during their cruise! Oh well, its holidaytime - and it's fabulous!Enjoy! Nat :Pinkbounc

Wow! This is so helpful. Now I can get a sense of what I will need to bring.
And actually, I have to admit, the prices you mentioned are not as high as I would have thought. And yes, I've looked on ebay and disney direct just to see what's available, and it's not much, so I figure I'll have to get my DCL wear while I can!

Thanks again-

That price must be for the Radko ornament! Don't they have cheaper ones?
Ornaments are my "vice" on vacation. I love to think about where they all came from as I decorate my tree every year.

12 weeks from today!!!

Can someone tell me, are the polo shirts around 40-50$? I think I saw this somewhere.

the prices are almost exactly the same as WDW...however, the plus side of buying on the ship is that there is no sales tax....

Yes there are other kinds of Christmas ornaments that ranged from $14 - 20 on the ship. Don't forget the DCL pins! :) They are the same price range as the pins you find at WDW.

I bought this ornament on board...it is not an official Radko, but looks similar and only cost $40.00 (I normall would never spend that much for an ornament but it was the DCL ship so I had to have it!!!) Check out the link to the pic.

Now, if you check out the link below you will see pics of different things sold on DCL that I have purchased like beach towels, photo albums, etc.

There are 4 pages of items, so scroll through all 4 pages....

Definitely look for the "specials"! They won't always be marked. My daughter saw a hat she had to have and I was pleasantly surprised that it was on sale for $11! Even postcards are marked down but not posted. I found a large postcard with Ariel and was ready to bite the bullet and spend $1 to $3 but it was on sale for $.19. I bought one for each grandchild!

Only thing on the ship that I found outrageously expensive was Martinelli's Sparkling Cider for the kids.

Runs about $2.50 in the grocery store here, it was $18 a bottle on the ship.

just wanted to bump this up b/c of the great info.. Thank you everyone who posted on here...

I found the shirts to be very expensive, however they are very good quality. They are the thicker fabric and many are embroidered rather than the typical iron on stuff. If I remember correctly T-shirts were about $25-50 and sweatshirt were about $50-75. That being said, we found a really cute sailor dress for my daughter that was originally priced at $48 on sale for $15 so watch out for sales! I also bought scrapbooking stuff that was the same price as WDW. It is definately cheaper to but the specialty page set and buy an album at home! My other advice is to buy frames and reusable stuff that does not have a year on it that way you can place a new picture in it after every cruise instead of buying a new frame each cruise.

Wow $50 - $75 for a sweatshirt. I definitely want to buy one for myself and my dd but it will probably have to be my purchase for the trip along with a towel, small photo album and ornament. I hope to find one on sale or I'll be buying the $50.00 one that's for sure ;)

Does anyone know if you can use your AP for discounts in the stores on the ship? (like the discount you get at "World of Disney" store.

The ship has some wonderful items, but I have also been known to purchase some of my Disney souvenirs for family members at the Disney store (or catalog) weeks before I even go away. I usually find things on sale and stash them to give out when I get home. Saves a few dollars plus I don't have to carry them home on the airplane. Of course, the stores don't carry Disney cruise merchandise (just generic Disney stuff), so if there is something I really like at the ship's gift shop, I'll buy it.

Bill --

My dh purchased a beautiful polo shirt with the DCL logo on our trip 6/2003. He paid $65 for it. I must say it was worth it. It's one of his favorite shirts. It was very high quality and has washed well. We plan to get another one or two on our trip in the fall.

Hope that helps!
