My little brother is getting married in August and I am trying to think of an AWESOME gift for his wedding without breaking the bank... He is my daughters god-father and I just love his wife to be... I want to get them something special but with going to the wedding and staying in a $169 a night room for 2 nights driving getting everone new clothes for the wedding etc I have to be VERY careful on the gift...

Anyone Have any suggestions????

Their Shower was this weekend and I gave them a $50 Target giftcard I had earned through mypoints (great "free" gift to give) and some beautiful white Waterford Linen placemats. So I have to top this at least.... I could do another mypoints giftcard but I wanted to think of something else...

What aboutt an engraved pitcher and glassware or serving tray? We have a store near her that you can order from and the pieces are beautiful and personal.

My favorite piece is a monogrammed serving tray or chip and dip...
you could easily find a nice gift in the $50 range

I think if you made them something personalized, that wouldn't cost too much but would be a priceless memory for them.

How about a scrapbook or photo book with photos of them together. Or maybe a photo calendar for their first year together with all of the dates filled in for family birthdays, special holidays, and their anniversary too. You could also add their 'monthly' anniversary to each month so they could celebrate that day all year.

How about a gorgeous crystal or silver picture frame that you have engraved?

What's your budget?

For my brother's wedding, I got a large vase with a small opening (I think for Pier 1 onsale for $10 or $20) and then I tied 50 $1.00 bills onto a string a few inches apart and then shoved them all down into the little opening. So....he had to pull out this long string of money which was fun to watch and then have a nice vase to set out too.... Plus it looks like a lot of money coming out...you can do it in any increment. :)

Here is kind of what the vase could look like. Just make sure you can't see through it. Also, check Ross, they have good ones too and probably cheaper... http://www.pier1.com/Catalog/HomeAc...e/Pale-Green-Floral-Ceramic-Vase/Default.aspx

Just make sure it's big enough to put all the money in :) Use can use string or ribbon to tie the money on. I don't have a picture but just squish/pinch the center of the bill long ways and then tie the string/ribbon in a knot around it. Just do this every few inches.

I would suggest a nice new photo album filled with pics from the wedding. I've done this a few times and it's always a huge hit! For my sis we drove 10 hrs and spent the week so I took a lot of photos during the wedding, gave the camera to the kids and let them take photos too, the next day I printed a bunch of standard size pics out and put them in a photo album for her. It worked great because they did a gift opening party the day after the wedding. I'm doing something similar for my BFF's wedding but it's also not very budget. My DBF's Father is an artist and he's got a special medium that he's been working on, basically he takes a blank canvas and paints it with basic bg colors, then he takes photos printed on standard paper and glues them to the canvas, then he paints over the canvas and the photos leaving parts of the photos uncovered. The finished project is really neat so he's going to do one for us to give them. I'm excited and I hope she likes it. :)

What about one of the premade photo books? Could you gather enough photos of them growing up and then together to do a nice coffee table book? You could do a lovely one for less than $100

Another alternative is to go in with another BIL or SIL and try to get the mixer as a "group" gift. Or possibly give a check towards it.

one of my relatives did this for my wedding- It was one of the best gifts I received. The photos were candid shots of people at my ceremony and reception. I was so caught up in my day that these shots are not priceless to me.

We did have a formal photographer which we paid dearly for but the candid shots captured my day in a whole new light

My favorite gift I got was a long rectangular mirror that had our wedding invitation on the top and a mirror on the bottom. I've since done it for 2 people and it's around $90ish and beautiful!

Something my great-aunt made for me.....it was a "date night" box. I had a bottle of champagne, box of microwave popcorn, some crystal candlesticks, and a gift card to video rental place.

You could do a variation on that.

You could purchase 2 of their champagne flutes and then decorate them with white ribbons, tiny "pearl" strings, and silk flowers, and give them to use for the champagne toast. At the end, they will have 2 pieces of their crystal (of course, it's been years since I bought crystal, but when I did they were under $50 per piece, fitting into your budget nicely).

The decorating isn't all that hard, and you would spend less than $15 on the extra supplies. You just need to make sure they know not to buy anything to use for the toast and give it to them a bit early.

Are you crafty?

My mom used to make a nice wedding present for everyone's wedding she was invited to and of course she was on a budget.

She would get a large-sized hardback book at Goodwill, shellac it to all get-out in an open position. (I don't know how to spell shellac.) She'd curl the edges of the lower corners. She'd then take the wedding invite, burn the edges to give it an antique feel, and then shellac that down on the right side of the book. Then on the left side page, she'd put a nice poem or if the invite had a poem, she'd use that.

Then, she'd spray paint the whole thing in the wedding colors (covering the invite and poem, of course) and then add things like dried flowers or ribbons or what have you to make it look pretty.
