Hubby and I are looking for a vacation alternative to Disney for this September. We want to drive somewhere, we have been to Colonial Williamsburg, Amish Country, coast of Maine, and lots of other places in our area. We want something different this year. Anybody have any ideas for me?

How far do you want to drive?

Myrtle Beach is lots of fun and about a 12ish hour drive from CT. There are loads of non-beachfront condos to rent if you're looking to stay in a budget.

(I assume you've been to the White Mountains area, NH and to the Cape? And one other suggestion, Mystic/CT casinos?)

There's lots to do in Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg, TN. :) I've also been hoping to visit Asheville, NC and see Biltmore Estate...

I was going to suggest Myrtle Beach as well. Its off season there, so you can get accommodations at a very reasonable rate. Weather is typically great (although you are still in hurricane season), the ocean is warm. Crowds are low!

we are heading to Willaimsburg this year.. Very good prices. Dh is sick of Disney:scared1:...I have never been. I sure hope its fun.

Great deals on hotel and Buschgardens and CW

Hi, What about DC--all the museums, the white house tour? Or Niagara Falls and the Toronto area?

Another thought is a cruise. September is hurricane season so prices are much cheaper. We have done to September cruises for a fraction of the normal in season cost. You could cruise from New York/New Jersey area if you wanted to avoid flying costs. Perhaps Baltimore would be a port to consider.

I second DC! Most of the museums and monuments are free! If you contact your congressperson you can get tickets for free tours of the capitol, the white house, the bureau of engraving and printing (watch the money being made!) etc. :thumbsup2

Fellow New Englander here! Who loves to travel!

How about Montreal? It's within driving distance, lots to see, fabulous food. A little touch of Paris closer to home.

Or...the Finger Lakes region of New York State? There are beautiful lakes and inns and tons of wineries to tour.

Stowe, Vt? You could check into one of the resorts and do a spa day or two, play golf, shop, etc.

Closer to home....Block Island, RI. Beautiful beautiful beautiful and the weather is usually awesome in Sept. with little crowds.

If you want to go farther.....the Outer Banks of NC?

Have fun planning whatever you decide!!

I feel your pain! DH told me he is also "sick & tired" of going to Disney so we are planning a road trip to down south...Charlotte, Myrtle Beach, and Willamsburg.

Stahshee would you be able to share the deals you found for Williamsburg & Busch Gardens? We are thinking about going to the park but haven't been able to find any "great deals" and any reasonably priced hotels I've seen are about 20miles away? Thanks!

SLPPoohBear: We are heading to Williamsburg over April break. Try skyauction and their vacation rentals for a timeshare condo ...or if you or anyone in your family works for the govt.....local, state or federal, you can book through govarm.com or getravelop.com.

I rented a 2 bedroom at King's Creek Plantation for $450 a week through them.

If you only need a couple nights, try condodirect.com.
Hope this helps!

What kind of vacation are you looking for- relaxing or active?

Beach- consider Cape Cod or Jersey Shore

Active- Washington DC, Niagara Falls,

There have been some great cruise deals leaving from Boston or NJ

Good luck!

SLP Poohbear--try AAA for theme park discounts--I think they have Busch Gardens tickets but you have to pre-purchase them
