Budget to double flight tax!

I have never know the ports not check passports, but why should we have to register the passport number when we book? Immigration swipe the passport through the computer to check anyway

When we used to go across the channel to France be it by car on the tunnel or by coach on the ferry back in the late 90's early 00's they never used to check properly, you used to just show the red cover and were waved through!

If you are not at home and the information is given by dodgy staff to crooked friends you are going to find your home burgled. Why should we all be terrorist suspects we didn't need it with the IRA and we don't need it now.

Do you take all of your personal belongings with you when you go on holiday?
If not, the act of advising some incompetent and leaky government department that you will be away from home on certain dates leaves you open to being burgled.

The next step will be the need to get permission to go away and an additional tax on that movement to cover the so called climate change cost.

Topic seems to have changed somewhat. I couldn't see the increase in the budget details I have seen. Did the tax actually go up?

Obi will correct me if I am wrong but I believe the increases were already in the pipeline before the budget. Some were hoping the increases would be scrapped but they weren't so the increases stand.

Nope, it doesn't look like it did. I've just done a search through the whole Budget document on the Treasury website and the only references to air passenger duty were historical - nothing about it going up any further at all.

Thanks Wayne. I guess some of the comments about flying from Europe instead have some merit. I'll have to look into that when we next go on a trip.
