Holy Cow! I was so surprised I thought I'd share this.

My grandma's birthday is Friday. I wanted to send her flowers, so I google florists in her area and find the one we used for my mother's funeral arrangements a few years ago. They did wonderful work so I wanted to use them again. They are an FTD florist so they offer many of the same arrangements that you can find at FTD's main site. I find one I like and ordered it. With taxes and delivery it came to $41.82.

On a whim, I check to see if it was the same price at FTD's main site. The exact same arrangement on their site came to $59.37!!!! That's almost a $20 difference!

What a racket, I should have started my own national tele-florist company!

So, moral of the story: If you want to send flowers, google the town of the person you're sending them to and order them direct from a local floriest, and save yourself a ton of fees!!!

Yup, isn't it crazy??? Even with those $10 and $20 off coupons you see occasionally you are STILL coming out better to just dial the florist directly.

Makes me think the same for hotels..why waste time contracting with expedia/hotels.com..just give me the discount yourself! I know, I know, it doesn't really work that way.

Also if you try and buy through a promo site like mypoints or inbox or the referal site of your choice the prices are much different than the standard corp website. Sometimes for the better but often the prices are higher.

Oooooooooooooooh, don't get me started on FTD...........they made me so mad I'm still ticked off & it's been just over a year since I got angry.

I ordered flowers through the FTD website a year ago this past mothers day for my mom. I placed the order the weekend before Mothers day a year ago. The following Monday (a week BEFORE Mothers day) I was notified that my Mom had passed away. So I called to have the order cancelled. Nope, they couldn't do it. Nothing I could say would change their minds.

Still annoys me... Anyway, I then called the nursing home to tell them what was up & to donate the flowers to anyone there.

So the moral of this thread is to google flower shops in the city you want the flowers sent. Makes more sense & is cheaper too.

Good tips!

I can't believe they would not cancel the order upon your Mom's passing (I am sorry). That was sufficient notice. I think that is poor business on their part.

What a shame, I am so sorry
