I'm feeling the need for a "splurge". What do you buy when you have a craving for a splurge? Do you have a favorite budget splurge? Please share .

I buy myself a new article of clothing. I hardly ever buy myself anything so this is a real splurge for me. As a matter of fact, I just got the new Chadwick's catalog and I'm thinking of splurging on a new dress for Easter.

Depends on how big a splurge I need.

If I'm just a little down, I'll go to a bookstore and get myself a French soda at the cafe (that's an old fashioned soda with a shot of half and half to make it "French"). A half hour of unwinding there is pretty rejuvenating. Alternately, I get a pair of slippers that makes me feel pretty. $5 tops, since I get them at discounters. I have a collection of them now, which is odd, but it makes me feel taken care of, so who am I to question? (My husband started the slipper thing.)

If I'm really down, we set a $20 limit and go to a $ store, dollar spot in Target, or similar place, and I throw together a care package for myself. Recently I put one together with a book ($1), a box of really good and unusual chocolate candy ($2), a silly movie (Mamma Mia, $5), a coloring book ($1), facial kit ($2), and I forget what else. You can take $20 a ways at the right store.

Maybe if you're a do-it-yourselfer, you could pick up a gallon or two of paint and pick a room in your house to change/spruce up. It could make a big change/statement, bold, dramatic or understated for under $50.00. Then take a few items from other rooms in the house to dress up your newly painted room.

It will feel like a make over and perhaps feel like a big change...spice it up a little.:thumbsup2

For small splurges, I get myself a Venti black iced tea from Starbuck's (best tea ever!) or a book. I love reading but rarely buy myself books. So I'll get myself a new book rather than waiting months for it to become available at the library. :)

For bigger splurges, it usually revolves around travel. I'll fly back east to see family or fly one of them to see me. Or I'll book a Disney trip. :goodvibes

We go to Whole Foods, buy some overpriced stinky cheeses, french bread, a bottle of wine, and some crazy decadent dessert. And then we go all cholesterol-crazy with a movie rental. Splurge within a splurge :)

On my lonesome, there's this amazing cupcake place in town, but the price is steep. However, I have yet to try any other cupcake that can even touch them. So it's my once every 2-3 month splurge to buy a few and hoard them. Though one time I finished one before I reached my car in the parking lot. :)

I just felt like I needed a "splurge" - I'm pregnant and working a ton to make up for my husband being laid off. I went on etsy.com and bought myself a bar of handmade soap ($6) and a bar of solid shampoo and conditioner ($15), all in the same scent. I love it, and since I normally get my shampoo free at CVS - a splurge for sure:)

The other day it was the big jar of organic jam at Costco. :rotfl2:

An item of clothing, but nothing too expensive.

A package of Dunkin' Donuts coffee.

I head straight to Marshall's and buy myself an awesome pair of Tahari heels for between $20 - 40. I love those splurges! :lmao:

DH and DD just bought me a Pandora bracelet. With his 2009 bonus just coming in and our tax refunds, I feel the need for a new charm!

Wow, I love all these responses!

Today my favorite mug in the world shattered because I'm a clumsy oaf, it was the mug I bought in Japan at EPCOT on my daughter's second birthday. My only souvenir, cause I'm not big on things with logos. Wouldn't you know it, they don't make these mugs anymore! I feel like I need a splurge. :sad1:

I love the suggestion to buy a new book, or to splurge on a nice meal, which reminded me of another little splurge I give myself:

Every week our grocery store has a few family sized prepared meals on sale for $3.99 from their deli. I buy these up and freeze them because they're REALLY good (like chicken Milanese with penne vodka this week). Then when we're too tired to cook or about to throw in the towel and order in, I pull one out from my stash. Every time we have one it's both a treat and a savings over what we would have spent ordering in. It's not a huge savings, still needs bread and salad and so on, but it's nice.

For a splurge, I either go shopping and buy something for myself (usually a couple new shirts or a pair of shoes) since I rarely buy clothes for myself. I usually only go shopping twice a year, with birthday or Xmas money! It does lift my spirits to have something nice and new to wear and I at least get use out of it.

The other is to go out with DH to a movie or nice dinner or both. We go to one of our locally owned restaurants and do wine, dessert, the whole bit. It's maybe $50 but it's so relaxing to have a nice, long meal by candlelight!

My splurges are generally online purchases. Purses or videos or vacation items.

Once maybe every quarter I"ll splurge on some clothes. I love those JCPenneys spend $75 get $15 off coupons.

Sometimes a really yummy dessert from the bakery ends up at our house :)

I was feeling a bit down in the dumps on Monday, so I got out of the House at lunchtime (I work from home), went to Wally World, and got a workout outfit for $26.00. A pair of capris, a matching jacket and a super bright tshirt to go with it. It makes me feel good to have a new 'outfit', and it supports my current weight loss program.

Sugar Mamas Bakeshop (Austin). My big pet peeve with cupcake places is I haven't found one yet that put as much thought into the cake as the frosting. But boy howdy does this place. Ohhmmmmmmmmmmm.... :worship:
