We have booked Budget for our trip - April 2-9. I have a couple questions.

We arrive on a Saturday just before noon - about how long will I probably be standing in line to get the car ?

Budget is onsite. After you get all the paper work do you walk to the car? Where is it in relation to the rental counter? Is it a hassle dragging a bunch of luggage to the car, and too long a walk for a 4 yr old, or does one person go get the car and drive back to the terminal/ticket area to pick up the rest of the party?

Thanks for any info you can offer.

FYI for anyone looking for a bargain - I did find that Thrifty was $5 less expensive for the week, but decided to go with Budget since it is onsite and Thrifty is offsite.

really depends on what time you arrive. we waited about ten minutes total with three people ahead of us. walking to the vehicle is not too far, should be no problem for you and the youngin'.

ONE THING TO NOTE, IF THEY ASK YOU TO UPGRADE TO ANOTHER VEHICLE, DECLINE IT. WE DID, AND ENDED UP GETTING A PONTIAC MONTANA FOR THE SAME PRICE BECAUSE THEY RAN OUT OF THE FORD ESCAPE SUV. THE MINIVAN WAS AWESOME FOR ROOM AND GAS MILEAGE.

This has happened to us twice now and both times we ended up getting an upgrade for no additional cost.

Did you sign up for fastbreak on budgets website. If you have not done that yet to it as soon as possible. It takes a lot of hassle out of the rental process. fastbreak allows you to go straight to the garage and pickup your keys and leave. It usually takes me about 20 minutes to luggage pickup about 15 minutes to wait for my luggage to come around then about about 5 minutes to the garage , and another five minutes to get your keys from the employee in the budget booth. So i would say it takes 35 to 45 minutes to get through the whole thing.

Are we eligible to use Fastbreak for our first time renting?

We've received our card...can we just skip the counter?

TIA!

Here are two helpful sites to look at. The first is orlando airports own website. there are maps on this website that will show you where the terminals and where the car rental desks are and where the rental cars are located. If you are familiar with the layout of the airport it will make everything alot easier.

If you already have your fastbreak card then your account is already set and you will have no problem going straight to the garage.

If you have not had your fastbreak number setup then you need to go to the second website that i have listed. It said on that website that your number will be able for immediate use.( make sure the fastbreak number is attached to your reservation) if not call and put it on there.

If you want to make sure that you can go straight to the counter and look for a sign post that says fastbreak. There will be a list of people eligible for fast. If your name is on the list go straight to the garage and do not stand in line.

In you use fastbreak please be aware than they will put the securement against your debit or credit card before you even arrive at the airport. This scared me the first time it happened. I went to check my balance on my card the morning of and my balance was less than I thought because they had already taken my securement. There was nothing to worry. Now I know what to expect and its no problem. I just thought I would give everybody a heads up on what to expect.

Last note spend the three dollars and find one of those carts to carry your luggage on. It is just like pushing a stroller and very stress free.

I have used Budget many times, as well as most of the majors. In Dec 2004 I had a very nice counter agent, we were chatting away, and suddenly she launched into a very aggressive 'loss of use' discussion, and pulled out a brochure.

I had never heard such a speech (it wasn't the typical insurance one) and finally pulled out my insurance card which shows my extra coverage for rentals, including loss of use. I was astounded that the conversation had changed so suddenly, and when I asked her about it, she said sheepishly that they entire staff had just been in a 'sales class' about this and to really push it.

The family next to me was in a loud arguement when I arrived at the counter, about how much more things were costing them. Turns out that they had been convinced to take the 'loss of use'. My $79/week rental was going to be about $200 more just with that coverage, not including regular insurance.

I stopped by my insurance agent today to renew my policy, and asked - yep, I am covered!

I rent cars at least 20 times/year so heads up on this one - it was new to me!
