That's because they are a Canadian brand (but made in China, like so many other consumer electronics).
This brand did attempt to launch a U.S. sales network, but it was to my understanding that not even Walmart wanted to sell their products (which leads me to believe if they were sold in this country, at all, it could've been at smaller "off-price" stores like Big Lots or perhaps Dollar General).
If you are buying these DVD players used, I would pass on them, save-up another hundred bucks, and buy a brand that I am somewhat familiar with (and has an adequate warranty).
As a mom with 2 broken but functioning DVD players, I'd say go for it! At $50, I wouldn't be as upset replacing them. Mine weren't cheap (not but super expensive) and I can't stomach replacing them! For now, rubber bands have to do! lol
