Super 8 verses Motel 6?

Pro/con of each?

Other budget places that are better?
Going sometime in July or 1st week of August.

Thanks!
Becky

How many people in your party? How close to Disneyland do you wish to stay? What is your budget?

The Super 8 is a bit nicer than the Motel 6 maingate but I wouldn't pay much more. The Motel 6 used to be a Redroof which has the same corporate owners but is generally a little nicer than typical Motel 6's. If on a really tight budget and you have a car then perhaps try Motel 6 in Stanton about 5 miles away on Katella.

If you have only 2 in your party then use Priceline bidding. You can often get a 3 or 4* hotel on Harbor just south of DLR for under $100. We've done this and stayed at the Hilton, Crowne and Sheraton.

If you have 4 people then take a look at Hotwire hotrate hotel. You won't know the exact hotel but will know the area, amenities, star level and review rating. Select a 3* with a rating of 80% or higher and you'll get a nice hotel. There are a few websites that can give an idea of which hotel you'll get. We've stayed at Holiday Inn, Hampton, Radisson and others all under $100.

Both the Super 8 on Disneyland Dr. and the Motel 6 Maingate get consistently good reviews here for budget motels. Both are non-frill, basic, clean, safe. If you and your daughter only need the room to shower and sleep, then either place will do. It really comes down to walking distance (and both are walkable for healthy, mobile people) and price. Personally, I might give the Super 8 the edge only because it would let you go through bag check at either M&F (and then you could take the tram to DTD) or at DTD (then you could walk to the gates). Motel 6 would have you going through bag check at the Harbor entrance, and lines there can get backed up at peak times.
The Priceline and Hotwire suggestions are good, but I don't know if you'll find what you are looking for at the price you want. If either the of the two motels above will work you, go for it!

Yes just two of us, very able to walk. The idea of skipping harbor security sounds better and better!

Priceline kind of intimidated me. I suppose every place is close enough that it wouldn’t matter what I get but I’m stuck if I don’t like the location. Does Priceline show you if the place has added parking fees and the other random fees that I keeps finding? Really annoying. Just be upfront about the prices!

I was able to book the above for around $90 a night before taxes and it is right across the street from Disneyland.

What time of year? We stayed there for our last family trip and it was great. But it is really priced high (for my budget) this last minute for our trip. I’d love to be super close but we don’t mind a walk there and with Uber/lyft, getting back if tired isn’t a prob to be further.
Definitely don’t want to drive!

Check out the Desert Inn and Suites- if it's just the two of you, you may be able to get it under $100

We are booked for end of August. Made reservations about a month ago or so.

the pros of Motel 6
* there is no carpet, so very clean floor.
* there is no furniture and bed sits on a pedestal, so when the room is swept, there is no pushing of the dirt into dark corners
* rooms easy to access by elevators and stairs.
* shower enclosed by door, so sink sits alone.
* all bedding is washed, no thick quilts.
* it is quiet, just a few rooms beyond your door
*when I was using ART, several surrounding stops around the Motel 6
*solid built structure, so neighbor noise is rare.

Cons
* if you are unlucky, all bedding is worn thin as well at towels. We bring our own blankets and throw rug for sink.
* have to live out of the suit case, no drawers to organize
* extra cost for mcoro and fridge. I have never had a problem with downstairs vending microwave.
* no Disney Bubble, the outside is stucto, so always dirty walls. Grounds are never clean, so will see garbage. Pool has never been usable in fall -spring.
* tiny details of lack of attention to the room.
* vintage cooling system...so noisy, which could be good for sleeping, covering the noise of your last 12 hours at Disneyland

Thank you so much for the details. That’s very helpful. I like the idea of a mini fridge but might skip it and do a small cooler.

The Alpine Inn. But the prices can bounce up and down.

Have you booked anything? Check the cancellation policy for each hotel. If there is no penalty for early cancellation, then start booking now. You can always cancel later if you find better deals. The closer you get to your dates, the higher the rates may be. If you find something good now, book it. Just make sure there is no penalty if you cancel early. Don't get forced to pay a higher rate close to your dates because there wasn't anything else left.

I’ll start finding a couple to book today. Part of my booking issues was our travel dates have had to keep changing but I think we are set on either July 31-Aug3 or July 10-13. Most likely later dates.
