budget hotel = Riviera - Las Vegas

Thanks for all of the feedback everyone. I shouid have given more details. I have been to Vegas several times but have always stayed mid strip - Ballys/TI/ Mirage etc... For this trip, I am meeting some friends who are staying at the Riviera because that is where their pool tourney in August is.

I have to decide whether I want to stay at the Riv with them or stay somewhere else and just get back and forth. I looked on Hotwire and can get a 5 star room for the same price as the Riv (north strip and would be either Wynn or Venetian). I know I can find somewhere cheaper but I want to stay somewhere nice. If I could afford it, i would stay at the Bellagio ;) as I have always wanted to stay there but that is a little out of my price range.

I am totally wavering between staying at the Riv and knowing it isnt the greatest but would be nice to stay in the same place as my friends. Or, staying somewhere nicer but having to go back and forth.

Thanks for any advice!

Stay with your friends. It will be much less hassle and stress for all of you.

Yeah, I second the PPs. I would not want to stay at the Riv. . .it's just too far down. . .and well, depressing. I like being on the Falmingo Rd corner. . .Flamingo, IP, Bally's, even Harrah's. I also know that Monte Carlo and Orleans run some great deals sometimes and I would stay at either of those over the Riv.

If you go to the cheapovegas site they have a bargain bin page that shows some of the low deals people are getting.

One more thing. . .be sure to check on the "resort fees." Some places charge as much as $20/per night extra now. . .mostly for things you'll never use.
