Just looking for opinions, has anyone every stayed at this hotel? It looks kind of old but it is really hard to tell by the pictures online.

Thanks for any advice -tips.

I stayed here for a conference last year....it wasn't great. I would stay away if you can. It was old, run-down, and dirty. The restaurant was very over-priced with mediocre food. It was also a trek to get to the nicer parts of the Strip.

If you are looking for something inexpensive, try the Tahiti Village at the other end of the Strip. It is very nice (and very clean) with large suites and a reliable shuttle that runs to the main Strip. There isn't a casino there though. So if you are looking for gaming on site, you won't find it. However, it was really nice for about 90 bucks on Travelocity. Great pool too!

Technically it was a timeshare, but we booked it like a regular hotel and the fact that it was a timeshare wasn't ever brought up (no sales push).

Depends what you're looking for - I've never stayed there. But for budget hotels in the prime, center strip area - I'd go for Gamblin Bill's Casino (right at the four corners of center strip) or Imperial Palace. Not as budget - but can get a decent deal is the Flamingo - and has an awesome pool.

We just got home from a stay at the Imperial Palace. We got it for $20/night Tuesday-Thursday and $70/night for Friday night. Nothing fancy, but the sheets and towels were clean. Location was awesome, and it has a monorail stop, which we found to be wonderful as well!

I personally wouldn't stay there, too far away from what I'd want to do. Did you check if there any deals at Harrah's? Sometimes they have deals with really good rates.

and for budget fun, we got a restaurant.com coupon for Hash House a Go Go at Imperial Palace also. HUGE portions, can share, really good. We just ate there Wednesday night. :goodvibes

it was on an episode of Man Vs Food on the Food Network, too

I agree, if you want budget but nice, Flamingo, Bills, or IP. Great location, clean and budget friendly.

I would not stay at Riv.

I have stayed at Tahiti Village and it is nice, and clean but far north strip. We had a car and parking was difficult. Did not use shuttle but I recall it stopped around midnight.

Personally, I wouldn't stay there if it was free. And I'm not a hotel snob by any means, it's just old, and run down, dirty, and not in a good location.

There are many deals to be found out on the Strip, or even off Strip at places like The Orleans which are cheap and much nicer compared to Riviera.
This site often had good deals:

I stayed at the Riviera in 2006. It was not dirty except that I don't care for cigarette smoke and people smoke in the casino. It was a relatively inexpensive location for a convention. It was within easy walking distance of several other hotels including Circus Circus, as I recall. We also walked quite a ways down the Strip. There is transportation available to take you to the other end of it and back. If you want a central location, the Riviera is not it.

The Star Trek exhibit and shows are gone so we won't be attending the next convention in Vegas.

We foolishly attended the pushy timeshare presentation put on by Tahiti Village.

You might also consider hotwire.com or priceline. My friends got the Wynn on hotwire for $80 per night.

Agreed with all previous posts...stay away from the riveria. If yoou need to be in that area for any reason try the Hilton. On the strip many high end hotels offer great discounts. I've stayed at the Monte Carlo for 50 a night during the week.

Sign up for the slot card and they will send you discounts via email.

Good luck!

Thanks for all of the feedback everyone. I shouid have given more details. I have been to Vegas several times but have always stayed mid strip - Ballys/TI/ Mirage etc... For this trip, I am meeting some friends who are staying at the Riviera because that is where their pool tourney in August is.

I have to decide whether I want to stay at the Riv with them or stay somewhere else and just get back and forth. I looked on Hotwire and can get a 5 star room for the same price as the Riv (north strip and would be either Wynn or Venetian). I know I can find somewhere cheaper but I want to stay somewhere nice. If I could afford it, i would stay at the Bellagio ;) as I have always wanted to stay there but that is a little out of my price range.

I am totally wavering between staying at the Riv and knowing it isnt the greatest but would be nice to stay in the same place as my friends. Or, staying somewhere nicer but having to go back and forth.

Thanks for any advice!

I would definitely stay somewhere nicer if the money is the same or just a little more.We have gotten really great rates at the Monte Carlo and their pool is wonderful.

As long as you are familiar with LV, it helps. I would avoid the Riv.

If you stay at Ballys, you can get on the DTX (downtown express) in front of Paris & get off again up by V/P & walk from there to make walking easier. Or since it is a shorter trip, you could do the Deuce.

IF you gambled at all when you were there before, check your CET (Harrahs/Caesars) players card. You can create an account online & enter your dates & see if you get any discounts or comps. CET is great for free or discounted rooms for slot players. A free room would more than pay for the bus pass or taxi fare to get to the Riv. I'm a thinkin they may find out they like to come & visit you at your hotel more than they will stay at Riv also LOL.

For a good forum visit vegasmessageboard.com . The great folks on THIS budget thread steered me there several years ago. They can answer virtually any questions you have. There are a few IP haters there LOL, but a lot that will also say it is a decent cheap room and an AWESOME location. My preferences are Flamingo, Paris & Ballys.

Well, the DIS has a Las Vegas board. It's under California and the West and I'd start there before the outside boards.

If you can get a five star property for the Riviera price, take it! It's a short bus ride or walk, and probably a faster cab ride between the two. Other options within walking distance would be the Hilton and some (non-casino) Marriott properties on Paradise Road, which you know runs behind the Riv. Just don't let anyone try to talk you into the Sahara, at any cost!

Well goodness, I have recommended the Dis on the Vegas board about 50 times & no one has gotten bent about that. There is no reason not to check on the threads on here, but the people on here are primarily focused on Disney, while the ones on the other board are primarily focused on LV.

I just recently got an email from the MGM Grand for $79. a night. Instead of going to Tavelocity or Expedia try going to the individual hotel sites in Vegas. I've been there several times, I don't gamble just go to see shows, and I have stayed at Excaliber, MGM, and the Mirage, and everytime I got the cheapest room from the hotel sites. Just a thought:confused3: If you subscribe to a few hotel sites you will be getting offers and specials daily.

Sorry,I wasn't getting bent - just, not many people know about the board here :)

Sorry - I get a bit 'edgy' after working on eBay junk for 7 hours LOL.

In regards to booking directly with the hotel it is by far the best bet as you can cancel & rebook if rates go down or specials come out. If you book a 3rd party site, you are stuck.

Good advice about the Sahara... They're closing in May!
