With four kids any holiday that requires anything sent to school can cost an arm and a leg. Do you have any budget friendly Valentine ideas? I don't really want to do the $1 box of Valentines from Deal or the Dollar Store.

Every dollar saved is a dollar earned towards Disney!!!

Last year, my daughter and I made these really cute mouse valentines with just some card stock, google eyes and ribbon. Go to the Family Fun website for ideas.

Here's the one we did:

Valentine Mice

I combined the class treat my kids were to bring with my children's valentines.

One year I sent a Little Debbie's Snack cake for each child with a pretty "Happy Valentines Day" label that I printed from my computer.

Another year, I bought the individual bags of chips and did the same thing.

((Our school does not allow home made goodies--only store bought prepackaged snacks.))

Around this time each year, Costco sometimes gets in packages of Play Doh. I think they are around $9 for 50 (more or less) cans. It works out to be something less expensive and something the kids can use. About 2 years ago I bought a 50 pack of Disney playing cards on clearance for $5 at Costco. They were meant for Halloween but there was nothing on the boxes that looked Halloween.I bought them and used them as Valentines last year and again this year. I'll be sad next year when they are all gone.

DD just asked this morning if she could make her cards this year. I was a little leary since her ideas often end up costing me a lot more than buying things.

I was happy to hear she wanted to make the cards like Conversation Hearts. She is using scissors, colored pencils, markers and the copier paper I bought for a penny (after rebate) at the Staples back to school sale.

Her sample was cute, made from things we already have and super cheap.:thumbsup2
