DH has joined a group that has lunch together a few times each month. What's a budget friendly, but tasty dessert that he can take? Thanks!

How many people are you talking about? Homemade cookies don't cost much. Neither does a brownie mix.

It's a huge group, but everyone brings something. So, I just need a regular size dessert. I couldn't decide if cakes/pies were a better price than cookies/brownies. There's no access to a refrigerator or stove, so something that is good at room temperature is needed.

I thought maybe a bundt cake would be good, but I don't have any good recipes. I'm fine with using a box cake mix to begin it, but I'd like a yummy icing/glaze on top. Anyone have any good recipes?

How about Rice Krispie treats?

A super easy bundt cake that I make fairly often is a Devil's Food Cake mix, and then I add in a bag of chocolate chips. For the glaze, I just melt some canned vanilla icing in the microwave and pour it over the top. Super easy, cheap and always gets gobbled up at parties.

I love dessert and I have to agree with the PPs about the cookies, brownies and simple cakes. You don't even have to frost them--just sprinkle a bit of powder sugar over top. (If you have high humidity, sprinkle right after unwrapping or else the sugar will be invisible.)

Mini muffins--use regular recipe. Grease the pan to the extreme and the mini's will pop out. No papers needed.

Bilini: ok, so this is mini pancakes. Making them is time consuming at the stove because each is about 1-2" in diameter. First time, I made them for adults, they devoured them. Serve with syrup or if you make with apples or berries in batter, no syrup needed.

When all else fails, take fruit. A friend would always stop and get 2 pounds of grapes. Use kitchen scissors to cut into small bunches--4 or 5 grapes each. Then place in serving bowl. Another option, pre-sliced apples--you have to treat them with a bit of citric acid (unless you pay the $$ for the packaged).

I made a super yummy apple cobbler last night that was simple, easy and with apples in season most places, pretty low cost.

Peal/core/slice thin about 8 cups of apples
place in a 81/2X 11 pan.
Sprinkle with about 2/3 cup sugar mixed with a teaspoon of cinnamon

Mix together
2 cups flour
2 cups sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
This will be crumbs, sprinkle over apples.
Melt 2/3 cup of butter and pour over top.
Bake 350 for about an hours.
We top with ice cream but its good without too and can be served hot, warm or cold.

Bread pudding is pretty cheap if you can buy day old loaves of bread. He can bring it chilled (even frozen) and use a microwave to reheat it.

different varieties of cake mix and frosting combos made from box mix/canned frosting might be a delicious and budget friendly way to go. You could do add ins too like frozen blueberries, cinnamon, chocolate chips, walnuts, craisins , coconut, etc I once needed a dessert for work and threw a package of milk duds into some box brownie mix and they raved about them for days!

Thanks for all the great ideas! I bought a couple of boxes of brownie mix tonight. This week I'll use some whipping cream that is in the fridge and needs to get used to make a salted caramel topping. The idea of Milk Duds mixed in is intriguing. I'm thinking a box of Junior Mints might be yummy too...

How about a dump cake?
http://allrecipes.com/recipe/pineapple-angel-food-cake-i/
This one has a cake mix and a can of pineapple although there are plenty of other recipes out there.

I do a dump cake with 1 can crushed pineapple, 1 can of cherry pie filling, yellow cake mix, and a stick of butter. Mix the pineapple and cherry pie filling together in the bottom of a 9x13 pan. Sprinkle the entire yellow cake mix evenly over the top of the cherry/pineapple mixture. Melt the stick of butter and pour it evenly over the top. You can also put shredded coconut on the top if you want. Cook it until the thop browns and is done.

I've also made a pumpkin dump cake but I've lost the recipe. It was wonderful and had pecans in it.
