Budget friendly area rug for my family room

I just put hardwood floors in my family room and now my big Old English Sheepdog is putting marks on them already. I need to find a large area rug at a reasonable price. Hopefully I can find one larger than 8x10 as my room is 18x20.

Any ideas?

Sometimes carpet stores will bind larger remnants and sell these at a reduced price. My sister bought a really gorgeous thick carpet at a high end carpet store... bound edges, 10x14, for $100!

I also get remnants from the carpet store bound. They come in almost any size you need.

To add the plush feeling, get a carpet pad made for wall-to-wall cut slightly smaller than your remnant and use that underneath the carpet. It will instantly feel plush and expensive.

Marshalls or TJ Maxx will often have carpets in the 300 range for that size.

Rugsusa.com is a great website to buy area rugs! Wait until they have a 75% off sale or 50% off sale at the minimum.

They have all types of rugs. I purchased an 8x10 wool rug for under $200 last year and I loooooove it. I figured if I got 2-3 years out of it I'd be happy (for the price) and one year later it still looks perfect. It replaced a $600 Pottery Barn wool rug and I like the Rugsusa one a lot more, partly because I know it was more affordable, but also because it is a really thick wool rug.

Yay! I'm glad you found one you liked. I think you'll be really happy with your purchase. They ship really fast also which is awesome. When I received my rug, it was rolled and wrapped so nicely so even if part of the outer plastic ripped, it still wouldn't damage the rug.

The best thing about RugsUSA is that if you don't love the rug, it was so affordable that it's not the end of the world!
