Budget Food question

If I find a good deal on bottles of soda before I go, can I buy them and take them in my suitcase? Is there any harm in flying with bottles of soda? Just wondering? TIA! (Of course, that would then leave room for souveniers after the soda was gone!)

It's not a good idea. The bottles are already under pressure from the dissolved CO2 gas. The cargo hold of the plane, where your luggage will be, is not pressurized like the cabin is. If the bottles would make it past the ATA inspectors, you would probably pick them up in baggage claim area to find that your BVDs are full of Pepsi.

What you may save on the soda you may end up paying for over the weight limit luggage. 16 ounces of soda weighs about a pound. Airlines are getting VERY strict on the weight limits. 50 pounds is not that heavy when you consider the weight of the contents and the suitcase. I pack normally and I am always over 40 pounds and the limit (on American) is 50 pounds. I think the overweight fee is either $25 or $50. Pretty expensive to save a few bucks on soda.

Lugging a bunch of pop across country at worst could be very expensive (over weight fee). At best, it's just really heavy.

What we usually do is buy a bunch of pop and water between the airport and our resort. We go to the Publix near the Premium Outlet mall. - Goodings is way overpriced.

It saves a bunch of money, and we don't have to lug it through two airports.

If you're using a taxi or towncar service instead of a rental car, they are often willing to make a quick grocery stop.
