Budget Easter Baskets

I also love this idea! Just wondering where you found the One Direction beach towel? My daughter would really like one too.

Walmart of all places! I went back the next day and they were out. Now I have to remember where I hi it.

For those who like the beach towel idea, I also saw one on Pinterest where you use a pool noodle as a basket handle. You ten use the towel to shape into a circle. It was cute too!

I did my kids Easter Baskets already and they weren't expensive. Since we will be in Disney on Easter, the baskets are all Disney themed. I went to the dollar store and got coloring books, crayons, stickers, glow bracelets, and a box of Mickey Mouse fruit snacks for my son & box of Cinderella fruit snacks for my daughter.

I think that putting practical things in the baskets that you know your kids will be using anyways is a great idea. :)

since we are going to Disney in May, i decided to do beach towel easter baskets!
http://forthemommas.com/articles/frugal-easter-idea-beach-towel-baskets

they are each getting a new dvd to watch in the car, a new shirt, some candy, muffins, a hat, sunglasses, and a few little things that we can use on out trip. :)

I love that idea. I wish our Spring Break trip was after Easter because this would be perfect. I think I'll use it for the end of school gift.

I'm not sure what I'll do for baskets this year. Candy and maybe a video game or movie for each.

Thanks! I'm going to check & see if they have them today

This year my 3 daughters will each be getting a movie (DD13 is getting Breaking Dawn part 2, DD9 is getting Wreck It Ralph, DD2 is getting Dumbo); older 2 daughters will each get 2 Cadbury eggs and 2 cans of Diet Root Beer, and a bag of popcorn. DD2 will get a tube of mini M&Ms, a container of Gerber Little Crunchies and 2 juice boxes.
Their favorite thing will be the soda, lol. They get them in stockings and baskets and SAVOR every drop haha! The movies are a little pricey this year, Ralph is $34 for the set I want but it's better for us to do 1 thing as opposed to a ton of little stuff.

I love the root beer idea, my boys will love that. I usually do that for stockings, I hadn't thought about it for Easter.

Also DH will be looking for a keepsake cross or snow globe or something for each. Since DH was given his diagnosis with a grim prognosis he has been giving each child something special just from him.

:(

I am so so sorry. Prayers for your DH and your family.

I always put a chocoate bunny, a toothbrush and toothpaste, some other candy, and outside type toys (side walk chalk, a jump rope, a ball or water pistol, bubbles, things like that) and a few small things.

Now that they are older, they get some candy, chocolate bunny, the toothbrush/toothpaste and a DVD.

Think practical! I try to veer away from too much candy because too much candy is --well, too much! So I think summer and spring activities. Things to consider including:
* birdhouse with paints (super cheap to get little wooden birdhouses at Michael's or other craft store and paints there too -- steer clear of yellow which is an attractive color for yellowjackets) -- then you can paint them and hang them up outside.
* butterfly garden (you can reuse the container with new caterpillars and food) or other fun science kits
* movies -- Wreck-it-Ralph which is coming out in March
* bubbles
* swim stuff -- new swim suit, pool toy, puddle jumper, etc.
* outdoor stuff -- pocket disc (crocheted/knit frisbee), frisbee, kite, sidewalk chalk, outdoor game like washers, horseshoes or cornhole, sports items like ball and glove, soccer ball, etc.
* gardening stuff -- tools, fairy garden items, plants, seeds, gardening gloves, watering cans
* arts and crafts -- crayons, arts and crafts supplies, modeling clay (there are small packets at craft stores that are relatively inexpensive and you can make things and bake them hard -- I made a bunch of mini vegetables for a fairy garden basket we're auctioning off at DD's school this weekend)
* I always include a toothbrush -- what can I say, the Easter Bunny is a supporter of dental hygeine! I might consider something like tooth tunes to bring up the fun value.
* summer clothes and accessories -- I love giving fun PJs around this time because it's an easy thing to score on sale. Think flip-flops, sunglasses, hats. some new shorts or skorts with a top.
* reusable water bottles
* luggage -- both of mine need carry-on bags so I'm using this chance to give it to them.

We like to stress the religious aspect more so than the gift giving aspect. My son is going to be 15 this year. We usually decorate eggs, which go into a family basket. Everybody likes hard cooked eggs, which we enjoy the week after Easter. We have some candy. Never really got my son into expecting a gift for Easter. He is an altar server, and the man in charge of the altar servers usually gives a gift to the kids who serve during the Holy Week Masses--this man is extremely generous. He has given my son things like Chocolate crosses and bunnies, last year a Jesus statue (it looks like an Agony in the Garden statue), and the gold president dollars. Last year, at the end of the school year, at graduation, my son got a special award from the school for participating in every holy week liturgy as a server. Since the man in charge of the servers was so generous, we broke down and give our son and Itunes card, and the man in charge a gift as well (usually something I baked).

this year we will be leaving for Disney the day after Easter so their baskets will be filled with things they will need on the trip( my dd5 birthday will 3 days later as well)

each will get Disney GC, 1 chocolate bunny

dd5 sunglasses, dvd for car ride, bathing suit, princess gummies, coloring book for car ride

ds15 new dvd for car ride, gum, bathing suit

dd18(won't be going with us on trip because she is in college and will have her break a few weeks before plus she went to NYC over Christmas)

she will get snacks for dorm room and Cash!!!

D is a freshman in college now, but I give a little candy, then things she needs, generally a swim suit, sun block, etc. When she was little it was a swim suit and small spring fun items link sidewalk chalk, a jump rope, bubbles.

This is a great list!! Thank you!!

Thank you for all these wonderful ideas! I don't know how to multi-quote on my phone, but thank you for all the great ideas!

I was just looking at towels at kohls.com and they have them.

It's amazing how much you can learn on these boards. I had no idea about yellow being attractive for yellow jackets. My house is sort of a creamy yellow. Maybe that's why we have so many yellow jackets around!
