Budget at MCO or stick with National?

Hello ... I usually book with National as I like walking directly to the parking lot to pick up our vehicle. I've never had any problems, although I've noticed that the minivan aisle seems to get smaller and smaller each time we visit and the selection isn't great!

Anyways, this March break we are travelling for a Sunday to a Saturday, so this has made it hard to get a good rate. Coupons usually require a Saturday night rental, but that isn't happening for us this time. Best I've been able to get from National, using a Car & Driver code from Mousesavers, is $396, plus taxes and such, so that is about $495.

I was reading another thread about Budget and found a code someone else used and plugged it in getting $299 total. That is a big savings! The code I used was BCD X474200 ... I must find out what it is for :) ... I was tempted to sign up for Fast Break then.

So if I do have FB and with Budget do I walk to an aisle of cars in the parking lot just like I did with National? I do not want to line up! Can I add FB to a reservation after I've made it??? What are Budget's vehicles like??

Any tips or info would be appreciated!!!
Thanks so much!
Kerri

The BCD code is from Travelocity....it's a public code so feel free to use it.

I'm using Budget for March Break. I've rented from them many time before, no issues, but not at MCO. Sorry no help there. I booked through Costco.com and got 20% off the rate plus a free upgrade and $25 off the final price. It ended up being the best deal I could get.....and I spent nearly 4 hours reasearching and running all the possible codes.

We used Budget this time because of National's high prices. I saved over $300. so couldn't justify using National. We went through http://uscarhire.co.uk/
It included all insurances and taxes. Anyway we went to the desk and got a trainee who tried to tell me that I hadn't paid for a tank of gas which we had. Got him sorted out  and he gave us a choice of vehicles and we took a brand new Taurus. Everything went ok other than the gas thing.
We tried to sign up for the Fastbreak but they couldn't match up the name on the reservation with DH drivers license name because they had something wrong on the reservation but as I understand it you can go right to the Budget booth in the garage and get your assigned car and not have to go to the desk in the terminal.

We used this code last October. Our first time with Budget. No problems at all. We usually use Alamo or National but Budget was lower with the X474200 code & $30 off coupon code MUPZ043. The only thing we noticed with Budget, we had to look over the car more. It seemed to have a few more dings than we've ever experienced with Alamo/National.

I am hunting for prices for our May trip now!!!!!

So with Fastbreak do you go to the lot and pick out your own car or do they actually assign you a vehicle? I read someone else got a Sienna on another post - would love that :) I like picking our car with National, but if it isn't a huge hassle I just may try Budget ... I like the $$$$ savings most of all!!!

OP....check Alamo right away. I just looked for March 15th and the rate is waaaaay down. I was booked with Budget and now I'm booked with Alamo for half of my original rate. I'm getting a mid size for $103 including everything. Now I just need to pray to the mid size aisle gods for something a touch bigger than a Corolla. For us the luggage will be a tight fit but for that price I'll make it work.

The funny part of this is that I have no idea at all why I even thought to look at the rates again. I was actually some what happy with the rate I had. Now of course I'm :banana::banana:

I have tried Alamo, and just did it again, but my rates are still over $500.00!! I've tried various codes from Mousesavers, but that is about it. I did find a $40 coupon, but that didn't make much of a dent in it after you add the fees!!

Having the same issue. Ended up taking ME and then renting from one of the Disney locations for the period we need the vehicle. Got a Std SUV for $330 for 8 days. Still higher than I would like but way better than what I was getting at MCO.

For National @ MCO the best rate seemed to be their MC rate from the website. There were Premium vehicles for $363 all in for the week & vans for slightly more. Issue for us was 750 included miles versus unlimited. Since we are going to the Keys this is light so sticking with the onsite rate.

Hopefully the rates will drop but I am not holding my breath.

My daughter used them in November with the codes and coupons mentioned. She also had a minivan. We were cruising so needed it to move people and luggage. Picking up at MCO, they did try to push the insurance and almost got her, even after she said no. She looked at the total before signing (as anyone should do) and saw the higher price. She made them redo and she signed a correct one. The minivan was fine. It was older and basic. She had a Sienna. We also had a Sienna, but we are Exec. Aisle members and that is what we got off the Exec Aisle, but with bells and whisltes. She use it all week and left it at the port while cruising. Since part of our family was leaving right after the cruise, we drove back to WDW and she dropped her minivan off at the Hotel Village area near DtD. (can't remember which one, but you can check -- the price was the same whether the hotel or airport). At the hotel, there was no one in the 1 man office, but after finding him, he just pretty much said "yea, yea", just leave it there and gave her a receipt. We were a little nervous, but the price was honored and the coupon amount was now substracted from the total. It all worked out for her, but she said she will probably stick to Alamo and National from now on. She didn't like the hard-sell or waiting in line.

The same thing happened to my son when he used Budget in Nov. He told them no insurance and when he checked the total before signing they had added the insurance in, he wasn't too pleased. He made them redo it before he signed. I hate it when they do that stuff, it ruins your day.

Glad to hear both of our kids were alert to check the total before signing. Yes, my daughter also made them redo the contract before she would sign it.

Yes, does anyone know how Budget Fastbreak at MCO works. Do you have to wait in line, etc.?

Check Dollar this morning....the minivan rate for a week in March is $475 all in. That's the city special.

The National MCO at the MasterCard rate for a van was under $400 all in. Mileage limit on the was 750 with a charge of $.30 per mile over the 750.

There is a link from their specials page for this rate.

Whats the code?

Minivan rates are down on Alamo for March Break....$248 plus tax and that's without any coupons or codes. You should be able to get another 10% off plus apply the $40 coupon.

Glad to hear that! The rates are all staying very high lately.

Just checked National too and there are some great last minute rates for minivans. Though it looks like no additional codes or coupons could be added. I think the base rate was $224, which is till pretty good. You have to click on the specials and last minute deals to get the lower rate.
